This doesnt surprise me too much, it's just a sign of the times. It should hopefully bring us more exposure in the US which can only be a good thing if we want to maximise revenue which is the only way we're going to compete! Wouldn't be surprised if Man Utd approached someone like Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson soon in a similar vein!

      Sounds decent.

LeBron James is popular in various parts of the world.
      LeBron James wears Liverpool shirt.
Various people buy shirts where sales are currently low.
More money comes into the club.
Meaning more money eventually can go to transfers.
      Means we get better players.
      Means we win the league.

      F***ing sorted.

Oh yeah and his nickname is King James.

The guy who wrote the Bible? Cool! Massive commercial potential :D

The quick dollar merchants have been got rid of. The quality business men that know how to make teams win and compete with the big boys have now taken over. So I'll place trust in them Saint. I'm not going to spend my energy trying to find the negative in every story attached to Liverpool Football Club. That's just not healthy

The jury is still out on them for me mate. I will wait till I see some real movement before I relax.

Swear some on here sitting on their chair scratching their heads trying to say something negative.

Lebron is probably the number one sports star in America. Great deal

Yeah, unreal if anyone thinks this is negative. He either helps broaden our revenue, or he doesn't. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Fair enough saint. Having viewed our owners behaviour in the sports our previous owners competed against them in I'm happy we have them. You can find examples of Hicks and Gillett in Baseball and NASCAR. You can, if you could care to, witness the solar opposite that is Fenway. From the sporting deals they Broker to getting the right men in to make the sporting decisions and then letting them get on with it. There is no comparison

I don't think anyone is holding our ex-owners up as examples of the perfect owners mate. I will be delighted if our new owners eventually prove to be as good as you think, but action speaks louder than words and like the old Diana Ross song..... I'm still waiting.

I'm not here to change your mind. Maybe just trying to put you at ease. For the record. When Gillett's NASCAR team met financial difficulty it was Henry's team who pulled the cars and engines from them as they were supplying them. Just an example of the different level the were working at. Gillett was Henry's customer

Would any of us be querying this move if he wasn't a worldwide sports figure?

Just more exposure for the club, don't see any harm in it. Possibly increased revenue in the US and ultimately more funds for transfers. Don't really see it as much of an issue really, and I expect the share he holds will be very minimal.

      LeBron James a Liverpudlian? F***ing awesome! :D

He's the biggest name in basketball with Kobe Bryant so to have him representing Liverpool is brilliant. The money windfall will be huge. Delighted with this move and definitely a move in to modern commercialisation instead of being left behind by the other big clubs in world football.

On the minus side...I just threw up in my mouth, and continue to have dry heaves. LeBron James is a pr**k. A massively self-centered, dumb pr**k. He calls himself King James. He has a huge tattoo on his back that says "Chosen 1". He makes a spectacle of himself every chance he gets.  Take Kenny Dalglish, and imagine his complete polar opposite personality-wise, and voila you have LeBron James.
      :tosser:

On the positive side...he will likely be the most talented, most well-known basketball player in the world for the next 10 years.  He is massively promoted selling sports clothing, sneakers and the like. So an association with him will open doors for us in America and many other places, and so we will make more money, which will makes us a better club.

But we are now partnered with a complete jackass. We could have done better, John Henry & Tom Werner.  >:(

You just beat me to the punch. I don't have a real problem with this because I can't see much harm in it. But Lebron really is a pr**k and being associated with him doesn't make me happy.

I'd read comments on facebook of people saying things like 'this has made me scared that we are turning into Hicks and Gillett' and that it could be an 'epic swindle'.

I highly doubt this. Hicks and Gillett never put the effort into something like this, or showed half the effort that NESV have already showed in their short time in charge. There can't be too much to lose from this deal, and it will surely expose us to an even greater market, mainly in the U.S and in Asia. I don't think too much can go wrong, but a lot can go right. It's all about bringing the club back to the legendary status of the 80s, when we were winning everything.

As big as we still are, naturally, the glory hunters as most call them, but the fans who in my opinion don't invest the time to look into the clubs they support, and really follow them as most of us do, will flock to the teams who are winning the most. These owners seem to understand that, and seem to want to bring the club to these new heights. They've said time and time again that winning on the pitch is directly related to winning off of it, and this deal with LeBron will hopefully lead us, even if only slightly, in the right direction.

Think of the reaction if/when LeBron turns up to Anfield wearing the Liverpool jersey. It is the same for Caroline Wozniacki. Exposing our name to other forms of media, and to fans of other sports will undoubtedly increase the club as a brand. The bigger the club as a brand, the more money runs through us, which will hopefully end up meaning more money to spend on transfers, and the development of young players.

And like Crouchinho said, its "a move in to modern commercialisation". It's a step forward in my opinion. Hopefully it pans out that way.

Can't see the downside in this at all. Great marketing move to have the biggest Basketball player on the planet support the Mighty Reds.

Let's hope he kicks in some all of his endorsement money towards transfers.  ;D

you clearly know more then me about basketball but with all the respect i think you are blowing the matter out of par potion. Its not like James is going to play for us. We will get more publicity because of him and there is no thing as a bad publicity.
More publicity = higher chance of selling our merchandises = more revenue for the club.
People who hate lebron james will continue to hate lebron james, it really doesnt affect us.

LeBron is a douchebag but this SHOULD be good for the football club. Dr. Dre probably pissed in his ear being a Pool fan himself so I'm hoping he does some good things for our brand and doesn't drag it down in any way. Be interesting to see what exactly happens with this. LFC training top while sitting on the bench?
