Liverpool want to sign Aaron Lennon from Tottenham – but the England winger’s ticket to ride will cost at least £20million.

Once the Stewart Downing switch from Aston Villa is completed, Anfield transfer fixer Damien Comolli will turn his ­attention to Lennon, who plays wide right.

But Comolli knows his old Spurs ­chairman Daniel Levy will play hardball over the price.

Comolli has stated that the club will give preference to English based players.

I've said it before, I would be very suprised if we get more than one (ie Mata) foreign based player in this summer.

Last few seasons we have been linked with anyone who even sounded Spanish, now English and under 26... Still, at least we appear to have money to spend..!

With regards to Lennon, I would'nt be upset with this as a transfer - but I think there is better out there for a lot less. I would love to see Raheem playing a bit more this season, TBH I think he will take Lennons place in the England line up before too long.

Surprised to find this thread bumped this morning... Don't know what to think of it yet, always seems to get into great positions with little end product. 3 goals. 2 assists in 25 games in the PL plus sub appearances is not great, but 5 assists in the CL is not bad. Still only 24, if he could work on that final delivery he'd be a mean player but £20m seems steep for the unfinished article...

For Villa to turn round and say,

Well you could pay 20m for him or we could reduce our price to 12-15m for downing, just do the business with us instead of them.

Something a long the lines of trying to get them to make us pay the cash for Downing I dont know. Would be a good plan if that were to happen but I totally made it up

Are you actually on the same planet as everybody else mate or you just a tad clueless? We need somebody that can cross a ball not somebody like Young but on the opposite side but drifts in far too much and never seems to provide even 1 decent cross, i think you are forgetting that we have Carroll up top who needs crosses in the air more often than he does get them therefore Lennon would be a poor buy and £20m? F**k that!

The guy is violently quick.. I've come to accept that every player world class or not will be purchased with the intention to make even better.. So with regards to the "final ball" concerns, I reckon Kk and co would iron this out..
