Riise does not rule out return

Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has refused to rule out a return to Anfield.

The Norwegian will enter the final year of his contract at Roma in June and the Italian club could listen to offers as a consequence.

Reports have suggested that Kenny Dalglish could look to sign Riise, who departed Liverpool when Rafa Benitez was manager in 2008, as a solution at left-back.

The position is a problem for the Merseysiders, with England right-back Glen Johnson currently acting as cover, and they have been linked with an audacious move for Everton's Leighton Baines.

UEFA Champions League-winner Riise, at the age of 30, seems a less likely candidate, but he said: "I am flattered by reports linking me with a return to England.

"Liverpool are close to my heart. They are a great club and I have some good memories.

"I have a contract here until June 2012, so you never know."

Marseille are also said to be tracking Riise, who played for Monaco before joining Liverpool in 2002, as a replacement for reported AC Milan target Taye Taiwo.

Riise said: "I love France as well. I played in Monaco and also enjoyed my time there."

I love John Arne. He still has looked quite the player when I've watched Roma. Not quite what he was here, but he is still one of the better left backs in Italy. Probably too old for us though.

I think otherwise, Kev. He's been poor for Roma and he's struggled along with everyone else in that side. He still shows his glaring mistakes every couple games.

Undoubtedly still has his great attacking edge but i worry about him. It's not misreading a defensive play, it's literally a massive cock up where he'll back pass to the opposition, slip over in possession in his own half, stuff like that.

I wouldn't want Riise he was a great servant to the club in the past, but he's entering his 30's and he's not the player he was when we first signed him.

Well he was a great player for us, but now I think he's to old.

As much as I wanted to punch him in the throat following his OG against Chavski, I did love Riise as a player. Too old now though, move on.

Was great to have him as a Red and scored some belters but i don't think it would benefit the team in anyway if he was to return.

This is a no go for me, it would be a major step back if we signed him. He was a good servant to the club and was great going forward but defensively he was bad at times.

His last season here wasn't the best, we had his best years it's a no from me.

Liked him the past, but don't want him back.

Love the guy but wouldn't really want to see him back at Liverpool. He isn't the answer to our left sided problems.
