Liverpool offer surprise exchange deal to land £12m playmaker

Metro are claiming that the Reds are prepared to cut their losses on the England international after a disastrous first season on Merseyside in order to land the player they feel Cole should be. The former Chelsea man arrived from Stamford Bridge last summer but was promptly sent off on his début against Arsenal and missed a crucial penalty in a Europa League tie against Trabzonspor. Injuries and an inability to find any kind of form have seen the one-time prodigy relegated to the substitutes' bench and now it appears his brief time at Anfield is coming to an end.

Whether QPR would sanction such a deal is questionable given the impact that Taarabt has had since his switch to Loftus Road – initially on loan but since made permanent – from Tottenham. Named the PFA Championship Player of the Year scoring 19 goals from his attacking midfield berth, he has been the catalyst bahind Rangers' running away with the Championship title. A mercurial talent equally capable of frustrating as inspiring, the Morocco international is certainly a star in the making and has seen interest in him come from such luminaries as Real Madrid and AC Milan.

Liverpool will hope to offer a player plus cash in a package they feel is worth around £12m while they will also offer to pay part of Cole's £90,000 per week wages in order to sweeten the deal even further.

Yeah because Cole is gonna go play for QPR? This is a definite no.

Think the lad would be a poor signing to be honest watched him a couple of times for QPR and he will not get the time and space in the Premiership he has in the championship. Don't think he is good enough for a top Premiership team

Can't see him coming here as he not too long ago had a dig at Damien Comolli in the London Evening Standard

      Quote
"The man who took me to Tottenham was Damien Comolli, now at Liverpool. He was at Arsenal then. But, when I was going to go to Arsenal, he moved to Tottenham. He told me: 'Come to Tottenham. We want to do like they do at Arsenal and take the best young players in the world. You're going to have a better chance there.' I believed him. This was a mistake and I regret it. Tottenham tried to do it like Arsenal but it's a different culture. I would have had a better chance at Arsenal. I would progress with Arsene Wenger. He is a legend in France, one of the best managers in the world".

Plus I've heard the deal's already been laughed off by Warnock, claiming they couldn't even afford half of Cole's wages.

He's got temperament issues but I wouldn't mind giving the King a shot at reforming him... he has some moments of pure genius out there. He'd be a deffo upgrade on Cole so I wouldn't mind a player swap with some cash sprinkled on top, I think he's worth the risk personally

Agree, deffo an upgrade from Cole. Worth a shot, but I don't think Cole will be interested in the swap deal.

Yea, I know they're loaded, but do you really think they'll splash that kind of dough on a player who's past his best.

Besides, he's a better player than Cole, and surely on a lower wage than him. I honestly don't think they'll bite.

Perhaps your right, it would have to be a player plus cash deal or maybe a loan deal where we pay a fraction of his wages.

Things can be done, but your right it would take a bit of negotiating that one.

Course QPR could fork out the dough for Cole's wages. Though he might be asked to take a bit of a pay cut.

But like Hoya says why would QPR want Cole, who's clearly past it and lost it, instead of Taarabt who may well prove to be a good player at this level.

Queens Park Rangers' Adel Taarabt has stormed out of the Moroccan camp after learning he would not start Saturday's African qualifier against Algeria.

The temperamental midfielder has vowed to quit international football for good after being told he would start the Marrakech clash on the bench.

"I am currently in Marseille," he told Moroccan station Radio Mars on Friday.

"I never want to play for the national team again, with or without (Morocco coach) Eric Gerets."

Moroccan sports correspondent Hakim Gazaoui has told the BBC that fans in Morocco have reacted with anger to Taarabt's move.

After the playmaker was told he would be benched for the Group D clash, Taarabt, 22, reacted by flying to France.

"I decided to quit the national team after learning that I was not going to start against Algeria," Taarabt explained.

"I left without giving any explanations to the coach. I did not want to create any problems within the squad."

"The national team is now finished for me. I would prefer to represent my country through my club."

Taarabt was a key factor in QPR's recent promotion to the Premier League, being named the Championship player of the year.

He has had problems with the Moroccan team before, reacting badly when forced to start last October's 2012 Nations Cup qualifier against Tanzania on the bench.

Having played for France at youth level, Taarabt made his debut for the land of his birth in 2009.

Morocco were already without freescoring Ajax Amsterdam striker Mounir al-Hamdoui for the spicy Algeria clash, with the Atlas Lions keen to avenge their 1-0 defeat in Annaba in March.

Both North African sides lie in the bottom half of Group D, trailing Central African Republic and Tanzania, although all four teams boast four points at present.

Wow. I like Taarabt a lot as a player, but that is ridiculous. Personally I would give him a chance at the club because I would like to see if Kenny could screw his head on straight, but at this point I think it would be a huge risk because I honestly don't know if he is reformable. And thats too bad, because he is a talented, talented player. sh*t like that makes me so mad, why does someone like that get those skills?? but anyways, people can change and I hope he does, and it would be very cool if the King was the one to do it and Taarabt shined on the field

We have plenty of other options. Definitely don't want him. If he has such a big ego and thinks of himself better than everyone else, I don't want him. He was pretty far down my pecking order anyways.

I for one would not mind him ending up here. Look at all the names of the greats in world football. The Peles, the Maradonas, the Ronaldos, the Cruffs, etc. All players have ego, if i was Taarabt playing for a Morocco team missing its biggest star, and with the knowledge that i am superior to many of the starting eleven and coming on the back of a wonderful season i would really mind being benched and that too consistently over the years. People complain that players do not take games by the scruff of the neck and show their repertoire of skills in games, but that is what the ego driven player gives you, they want to be the main man, the guy running the show. And anyway players are not stupid, they know and see it if they are better or worser than their teammates. If taarabt was to come to liverpool, i feel he will know his place and that would be in the first eleven. He knows he will have to perform or he will be benched so the ego driven player will work very hard to succeed no matter what and that is what is so charming about these type of players, their determination to succeed. There are many types of ego driven players, some are the quiet ones, some the more loud ones and Taarabt is the loud kind. Every big team have a bunch of big egos in it especially the world class players, look at Torres now, if he was in the Liverpool bench he would have surely complained but since he did not perform he has to keep shut at Chelsea. Likewise the ego driven player is not stupid (except for Rooney) and having them in the team guarantees you that he will work as hard as possible to succeed and that can only be good for the team. And the amount of ego a player has is directly proportional to the amount of ability he has or he thinks he has. So why not bring him here, if he has the ability and Kenny and the other boys think he has it, of course we know that comolli thinks he has it.

It's a disgrace you even try to compare him with those big names in football. The kid is 22 and has had one good season in the championship! So what that he has been benched consistently over the past 2 years, he's F***ing 22 years old. I imagine they played Boussoufa and Hadji ahead of him, which is more than understandable. Nothing charming about this guy. And you can say all you want about egos being normal for good players, but how many left their national side at 22 years old saying they'll never play for them again? He's an idiot.

Liverpool are reportedly readying a bid for Qpr playmaker Adel Taarabt as Kenny Dalglish looks to bring in youthful additions to his Anfield squad this summer. The Moroccan international had an excellent season at Loftus Road last term helping Neil Warnock’s side to the Championship title and is now the subject of great interest from a number of clubs both in the Premier League and from the continent.

The 22 year old former Lens man is a player that Liverpool’s director of football Damien Comolli knows well having brought the precocious talent to Tottenham during his stint at White Hart Lane. The French talent spotter now hopes to lure the playmaker to Merseyside.

Qpr boss Warnock has stated his concern that the West London side will not be able to keep hold of such a talented individual and with the likes of Arsenal, Juventus and a number of La Liga sides said to be interested the Super Hoops may struggle to keep Taarabt at the club.

Taarabt had two loan spells at QPR whilst at Tottenham and was signed on a permanent basis last summer for a fee of around £2.5m and it is believed that Liverpool are willing to offer three times that amount as an opening bid.

Liverpool’s new owners are willing to make substantial moves in the transfer market this summer as they look to take the club back into the top four and are looking to bring in players with great potential and Taarabt may well be tempted by a move to the club.

On Friday Taarabt sensationally stated his intention to quit international football after falling out with Moroccan coach Eric Gerets, this development would make the QPR man even more of an attractive asset as this would mean he would not take part in the African Nations Cup Next January and February.

Last season Taarabt notched up 16 assists and 19 goals and was named Football League Player of the Year.

Reminds me a bit of West Broms Dorrans, he looked like an unreal prospect in the Championship last season oozed ability but when he came up to the Premiership he disappeared this will happen with this lad as well

There is nothing average about Taarabt. Everything he does is different. He may as an all round player not be good enough, but he isn't your run of the mill player.

Maybe, but I have a soft spot for players like him, don't think there is enough of them in the game anymore. Now its all about pace, strength, and being workmanlike and not enough focus on natural talent. Will be very interesting to see how he gets on in the premier league.

He reminds me of Lee Trundle ;)

How anyone can compare Adel to Pele, Diego or Ronaldo after one good season in the Championship is beyond me. If Adel was near Ronaldo's standard he would have made it at Spurs in his late teens like Ronaldo did at Man Utd. I hate the idea of him in a Liverpool jersey. He'll go missing this season.

Scored mnore goals than Carroll did in that league. He has flair & talent to burn, questions over his mental state - but worht a gamble at the right price. I reckon QPR would be interested in Cole + cash as well. It would suit them to get a high profile player & this might be a way for them to do it.

Not that I'm comparing him to any of the above in terms of talent, but he is a talented lad in his own right and could improve ten fold under the right guidance.

If I'm quite honest, I wouldn't have minded a gamble with this lad. Think he's really talented and just needs to be guided and nurtured. Seems we won't get him though.

From what I've seen of him I agree but if reports are to be believed and he won't come here unless he's guaranteed a place he is definitely not LFC material or a team player, chavs maybe.
