Benjamin Moukandjo lined up by Liverpool as Gervinho alternative

      http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/864850-benjamin-moukandjo-lined-up-by-liverpool-as-gervinho-alternative#ixzz1NwF4TTxu

Liverpool have lined up a surprise move for Monaco forward Benjamin Moukandjo as an alternative to Lille’s Gervinho.

The Cameroonian, who can also play on the flank, has become a target for Kenny Dalglish, according to French reports, after Monaco’s relegation to the second tier.

Moukandjo would be available for considerably less that Gervinho, and the Reds would certainly face less competition to land the 22-year-old, who’s considered a similar type of player to the Ivory Coast international.

However, Liverpool’s pursuit of the lanky attacker may still come as a surprise, as he’s had limited experience playing in the top flight, and only managed three goals in 16 appearances for Monaco since arriving from Ligue 2 side Nimes in January.

But Moukandjo’s raw ability and versatility will be what’s appealing to Dalglish and Damien Comolli, whose focus will be providing cover for the first choice strike pairing of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Whats that the 200th player linked this summer. ;D

Liverpool planning raid for Monaco winger

      Published 23:01 31/05/11
      By Steve Goodman

Liverpool are keen on Monaco’s Cameroon international winger Benjamin Moukandjo.

Kop boss Kenny Dalglish has had the 22-year-old watched several times and may land him for a bargain fee after the French side were relegated from the top flight at the weekend.

Moukandjo scored five goals for Monaco after his January move from Ligue Two side Nimes.

He is unwilling to play again at a lower level and Monaco may be prepared to sell him to lighten their wage bill.

Could be the alternative to Marveaux as back up if that deal falls through? Anyone know if he's predominantly left or right sided?
