Joe Cole set for Lille loan move

      Tuesday, August 30

Joe Cole is preparing for a move to French side Lille as he looks to end his Liverpool nightmare.

The Reds midfielder has endured a torrid year at Anfield, scoring just two Premier League goals in 32 appearances for the club.

Now the French champions are set to offer the England player a lifeline after Liverpool agreed to let the former Chelsea man speak to the Ligue 1 side about a loan deal.

Another player who hasn't had the benefit of the famous Anfield "warmth" towards those in Red, Cole has conducted himself with dignity and is a good pro. Wherever he goes he goes with my best wishes anyway.

I have to be honest, I think your spot on. Look, I know he was on massive wages, and it hasn't worked out but anytime he did play, he did try. It's not in his make-up to not try. It hasn't worked out and so we move on. Have to say, I met him on several occasions last season and he was a true gentleman. However, no harm to him, but I am glad to see him possibly leave.

He just doesn't fit into our team. Same applies with Aquilani. I have no bad words to say about him, he comes across as a respectful, sound lad.

I reckon Lille is probably close to London than Liverpool is so works out best for both parties.

Joe Cole to join French champions on loan

      Published 12:54 30/08/11

Liverpool are set to loan misfit midfielder Joe Cole to French champions Lille for the rest of the season.

Cole has struggled to establish himself at Anfield following a big-money Bosman move from Chelsea last summer and has seen the arrival of midfielders Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson over the past couple of months further reduce his chances of regular action.

The arrival of the England international would renew speculation about the future of Lille star Eden Hazard, who has been linked with Arsenal and, ironically, Liverpool.

Liverpool's Joe Cole closing in on season-long loan at Lille

      Tuesday, 30 August 2011 13:29 UK
      By Dan Roan
      BBC sports news correspondent

Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole is close to agreeing a season-long loan deal with French club Lille.

Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in signing the 29-year-old England international.

Cole moved to Anfield in July 2010 on a four-year deal from Chelsea but made only 11 Premier League starts for the Reds and was sent off on his debut.

Lille are in this season's Champions League after winning their first French league title since 1954.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has strengthened his midfield over the summer with the additions of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing.

Cole failed to make the bench in Liverpool's first three Premier League games of the season.

      Cole in French talks
Liverpool man set for loan move

      By Graeme Bailey
      Last Updated: August 30, 2011 3:00pm

Sky Sports sources understand Joe Cole is in talks with Lille about a loan move to the French champions.

A number of sides including Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers have been linked with the Liverpool midfielder in recent months.

The England international, 29, has struggled to make an impact at Anfield since joining last summer, playing just 20 games.

Cole is now in talks with Lille - who could offer him UEFA Champions League football - about a season-long loan.

It is believed Cole is now in Northern France to meet with Lille officials with a view to finalising a move.

Lille are keen on a number of English-based players, but their efforts to sign the likes of Yossi Benayoun and David Ngog have failed to materialise.

Was delighted when he chose Liverpool over other clubs last year so I'm really disappointed it hasn't worked out for him. Getting suspended in his first game meant it was downhill from there. He never really had a decent run in of games and if he did it was under Hodgson's dire time. I'd like to think we were always on his side but I was slightly disappointed at some fans over the top criticism of him. He didn't deserve that especially for an individual who joined a club falling backwards at an alarming rate.

But a loan move to Lille sounds great for him. In the Champions League and if he can keep fit then I'm sure he will find the form to go with it. Can't wish any more luck on the guy.

Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole considers Lille but gives Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers time to bid

      By Rory Smith
      30 Aug 2011

Joe Cole will decide on his future early on Wednesday in order to grant Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers as much time as possible to table a counter offer to the loan deal which would take the Liverpool player to the French champions Lille for the remainder of the season.

The 29 year-old arrived in northern France last night for talks with Rudi Garcia’s side, who are believed to be in pole position to sign the player thanks to their ability to offer Champions League football.

Lille are desperate to complete a deal for at least one well-known player to counter the loss of Gervinho, to Arsenal, and Yohan Cabaye, to Newcastle.

They are also believed to be considering an offer for Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

Harry Redknapp, who coached Cole at West Ham, has made it clear he would relish the chance to work with the player again but the Tottenham manager has yet to make an offer.

QPR, too, are believed to be considering a bid, though Neil Warnock has insisted in recent weeks that he cannot match Cole’s wage demands.

Liverpool willing to part-fund Joe Cole's French connection

      Published 22:29 30/08/11
      By David Anderson

Joe Cole has been handed a chance to relaunch his flagging career with a surprise switch from Liverpool to Lille.

He is in talks over a loan move to the French champions for the rest of the season after becoming the most high-profile victim of Kenny Dalglish’s £110million refit of Liverpool.

The former Chelsea and England midfielder knew he had to leave Anfield when he was not even a substitute for last week’s Carling Cup tie at Exeter.

Lille can offer Champions League football and have been drawn in the same group as Inter Milan, Trabzonspor and CSKA Moscow.

Liverpool are prepared to fund part of Cole’s £90,000-a-week wages during his 10 months in northern France.

Cole, 29, who is also wanted by Spurs and QPR, feels playing for Lille would put him back in the shop window after a miserable 13 months on Merseyside and has travelled to France for talks.

Cole was one of the summer’s hottest transfer targets when he signed for Liverpool last July after being released by Chelsea and fans welcomed his capture as a major coup for the club.

However he was sent off on his Premier League debut and his career went downhill from there. His fortunes continued to nosedive when Dalglish succeeded Roy Hodgson in January and he managed just one league start under the new boss, on the final day of last season at Aston Villa.

Cole’s fall from grace cost him his England place and he feels he still has something to offer the Three Lions.

He has not managed a place on the bench this season with Dalglish investing heavily in Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam.

Dalglish sympathised with Cole’s plight and will not stand in his way if an acceptable offer comes in.
