Kuyt was not average, Origi was. He played for his national team for 3 World Cups and was often in the starting X1.
But Kuyt would have his place in most Premier League team and would score regularly. Origi struggled at AC Milan and is not great at Forest. Kuyt would have an impact on the team.

Kuyt was not Diaz in terms of technical abilities but he was a good football player. You don't have 100 caps for the national team of the Netherlands if you're not above average.

Daley Blind, Hunterlaar and Depay have also played for their country at 3 World Cups playing 100 games there or thereabouts....maybe Babel too, they were average Dutch sides which were nothing like the 90s or early 00s.

Early 00s? Netherlands didn't even qualify for the 2002 World Cup.

True but sometimes nations over/under achieve and sometimes the coaches are just absolute sh*te. Doesn't change the squad they had then was far better and more talented than their 2010/2014 squad. Stam Van Bommell Davids Seedorf Overmars RVN Kluivert Makaay. Then compare that to the likes of Kuyt RVP Sneijder Mathijsen Heitinga De Jong. You can run through it almost man to man and it blows it out the water.

You also have to factor in how much better the French, Italian, Brazilian, German and even English teams were back then.

Loved the guy but let's be honest here, much like Origi he was mostly average. Finishing of Jota, work rate of Hendo but technical ability otherwise was average.

I agree he wouldn't crack our starting XI now a days in his prime but I would not categorize with Origi who career never taken off despite such key contributions.

Supporters love hard working, salt of the earth type player. He reinvented himself after it became clear he wasn't going to be nearly as prolific up top as he was for Feyenoord in the Premership (always felt his first touch wasn't good enough inside the box). Sort of similar to Lucas career which was in the same era.

Always remeber that belter he scored vs West Ham at Upton Park and scoring the winning penalty vs Chelsea in the UCL semi-finals in 07
