He isn't the only one that gets game time, he could easily have made Skrtel or Johnson captain if that was the case. Also a shaky defence wouldn't be a reason for Hendo to be vice captain.

I think he wore the band a few times but it was Carra always, Agger was a clear 3rd in command (I think)

I guess so - I think Agger was made vice captain last season - but could be wrong. Im just not convinced that Hendo is the right man for the job. Taking over from Gerrard is a hiding to nothing. Especially as they occupy the same position.

I would rather it went to someone else to save Hendo the pressure of this.

Too much is made of captaincy in football especially in this country, not a big deal for me, as long as it's a regular starter that's fine by me

To give Henderson his due, even before he was made vice captain, he wasn't afraid to have 'a word' with his team mates, that has included Gerrard.

I think Jordan will be just fine, there is more to being Captain than just being the "best player" on the pitch.

As Rodders wrote earlier - Hendo has never been afraid to "have a word" with others during a game and if you cast your mind back...

Brendan frequently calls him [his vice-captain], to the side-line, during games, to explain instructions, trusting him to pass them on to the rest of the team. That's setting aside fact that the lad, Brendan describes as having "all the leadership attributes"; is a model professional; other players respect him and he has been England U21 captain.

So as much as I admire your commitment Mick; I have a feeling that the hole in Jordan's arse might just win this battle. I know, if it were a two horse race between Henderson and your choice [Lovren], who I'd be backing.

The future captain does have to worry about getting back into the team, and then he can press on and show his qualities. Jordan bless him has enough problems keeping his own chin up without being charged with helping everyone else out. I've rarely seen a footballer with more fragile self belief.
