And this is why we are stuck in the mud, have been for years and will be for years unless something changes.

Because if you told Barca, Bayern, Real Madrid, or for that matter any club in the world that they could have one of Coutinho or Henderson for free, literally every single one of them would take Coutinho.

Whilst we somehow big up Henderson who offers literally nothing other than endurance.  If we want someone to run around non stop then bring in Mo Farah.  What we need in midfield is leadership, CONSISTENT quality, someone who takes control of games, not someone who goes missing in the big matches.

It's no wonder we keep losing our best players.  Imagine if you're Coutinho and Barca comes in and says "f**king hell Phil, your own club thinks that you're not as important as Henderson."

He will be off next season while you lot say "oh well at least we still have Henderson."

We used to have Stevie, Xabi and Masch in our midfield.  Have you lot forgotten what it really means to have top class quality in our midfield?

Now we have Jordan Henderson as our "most important player."  We have fallen so far it's not even funny.

Henderson is sh*t? Well, Can and Lucas sure did a great job of it today didn't they!

Klopp loves hard workers. Part of the reason why they had so many injuries last year at Dortmund was Klopp's demand for high work rates.

That's nonsense. Henderson is an excellent midfielder currently. It doesn't matter that we used to have Alonso, Mascherano, and Gerrard. A prime Gerrard walks into the current league and is the best player by a million miles, and a prime Alonso would also be the best midfielder in the league. The only midfield in the past five or six years that was better than Gerrard/Alonso/Mascherano is the Barcelona trio of Busquets, Xavi, and Iniesta. It's an unfair expectation.

My only problem with Hendo is that he tends to go missing in some games (big or small). Not sure if this is down to him being inconsistent, or if it's because he's being asked to do some different role on the pitch.

Either way, you have to think we're going to miss him come 5:30pm today (vs Man U).

I think you could say that about almost any player who plays the game Rush.

That's very true. I think in Hendo's case, the problem seems highlighted because he's been made captain. And of course, following Gerrard's example is something anyone would have trouble doing.

It depends how you define going missing?

Suarez with the way he plays and where he is on the park is more obvious in his work than Hendo..
Suarez certainly didn't always play at the high level he often achieved.. The Chelsea game in 13-14s run in he was very quiet.. The Chelsea game where he bit Ivanovic he was quiet and frustrated leading to the bite.
I remember James Collins(?) in a West Ham game having him in his pocket once

No player ever plays at their limit at all times.. But with Suarez's style he didn't often seem to be 'missing' even if he was off it

Hendo is your pet peev, you look for things to back your argument ( we all do with players we dislike or like) but he at the level he is now which is far better than the level we brought him at he is a very important  player... A Suarez in style? Of course not but we miss him when he doesn't play which tells its own story about what he does on games even if it's not obvious

      Wum.
How do you know Henderson isnt going to turn out to be like Steve, Xabi or Masch?

He's a 25 year old captain for one of the biggest clubs in the world!! (although I personally thought we should of kept Danny Agger and gave it him instead)  Thats something only Stevie has accomplished and look how he turned out to be?? A liverpool legend.
Jordan is the engine for our team and his consistency just keeps on improving, you can only imagine how he's going to turn out in a few years.
You need to realise theres a new generation coming through, yes we have alot of sh*t around the squad but I think any club in the premier league would be lucky to have Jordan in there group.

Jordan Henderson injury: Liverpool FC captain heads to America for treatment on heel problem
Jordan Henderson has flown to America as Liverpool look to get to the bottom of the captain’s long-standing heel injury.

The Reds midfielder travelled to New York on Monday with club doctor Andy Massey, and will visit New Jersey based orthopaedic specialist Dr James Cozzarelli, as he seeks a solution to the issue which has kept him out of his side’s last three matches.

Henderson will have treatment on the injury, which is causing him discomfort in both his heel and the sole of his foot, in a bid to accelerate his return to action. Crucially, though, the 25-year-old is NOT due to undergo surgery.

Henderson limped out of Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth on 17 August, and has been troubled by the problem since.

Liverpool were initially hopeful that the England man would be fit to return to action after the international break, but are now set to be without him for an extended spell, though they have so far been unable to put a timeline on his return. It is hoped that the skipper’s visit to America will both pinpoint the problem and speed up his recovery.

In Henderson’s absence, Liverpool have picked up just one point from a possible nine.

They have used a three-man midfield of Lucas Leiva, Emre Can and vice-captain James Milner in the last three games, but have looked short of balance, creativity and energy. Defeat at Manchester United on Saturday saw them slip to ninth in the Premier League table, cranking up the pressure on boss Brendan Rodgers.

There is better news for Liverpool with regards to Adam Lallana, who has been absent with a thigh problem.

The former Southampton man trained at Melwood over the weekend, and is in line to make his return to action this week. Thursday’s Europa League group match in Bordeaux may come too soon for the 26-year-old, but Lallana could feature in the league game with Norwich City at Anfield on Sunday.
