Hendo still a top player and a top top captain.

The whole team is suffering just now, not just a few players.

As soon as he replaced Keita we capitulated, he’s been atrocious all season and he is only going to decline because what he lacked in technical ability he made up with his running power, those days are long behind him now.

Yup, he got one nutmeg. That was all I seen him do.

Absolutely outstanding tonight in the Captains role,.

He's the man who holds the midfield together, the glue that keeps us tight when needed, he really put in a shift tonight, superb Jordan.

No wonder. Whenever the team play well Henderson play well.
Ofcourse Hendo surely have a few decent games throughout the season but it's just that.

Seeing as though the club were daft enough to give him a 4 year extended contract, (read that and weep) he should take up the Milner role next season, playing short cameo’s.

he seemed revived for the World Cup driving forward but we havent seen too much of that here. He shouldnt be anywhere near finished but his injuries may have caught up with him he just doesnt have the stamina, strength and speed he had in 18/19/20 etc

I'm one of Hendo's long standing defenders on here. Always considered him a good player who took a lot of undeserved stick. But if this needing to come off after 70 minutes is a permanent thing then obviously that is a problem. I had hoped it was a case of him needing to play his way back to full fitness or whatever, but it looks like maybe that is his new normal. If so, the most he can really be is a squad player a la Milner. You can't be a key player if you continually need to come off with 20 minutes to go and the team trying to turn round a game.

      Agree.

I've been a huge fan of his over his time here and felt he was under rated by many but hindsight is showing that contract was a big mistake.

I cannot see any scenario where he rediscovers his form of a couple seasons ago and will only decline further.

He's a big dilemma going into next season.

I never minded the contract he got at the time as I felt as a leader of this team and a footballer he'd earned it.

Now though it looks like it could very well come back to bite us.

Oh I get that mate but on huge wages. But will he be happy with that? Not exactly at the end of the road age wise.

In hindsight would it have been better to let his contract run out??

I don’t think we should have run his contract out - he deserved a new one but 4 year extension maybe two years to many

But he is 33 - used well can get another season out of him and think he will understand that he won’t play every game

Hendo as a squad player is completely fine. He'll be 33 at the start of next season and should be able to be a valuable squad player for the remainder of his contract.

I have to imagine Hendo has enough self awareness to realize he cannot carry the load of a starting role anymore.

I'm not as convinced as you how fine he would be about that.

And having a player dip in and out of the starting 11 on that huge contract isn't exactly the best use of resources.

I think Henderson would know that soon enough he isn’t going to be playing week in week out - unless he goes onto the pitch and plays to a level that means he can’t be left out

Agree it's not the best use of resources (forget how much he's on and how it compares to someone like Milner, for example), but all along Hendo has come across as selfless and part of his role as a leader is to do what is best for the team, even if it means he takes on a diminished role.

Is this the same Henderson who got his agent to brief journalists that he was off if he didn’t get his contract demands 😁
