Liverpool check out Chivu as Clichy heads to City

Liverpool are interested in Inter Milan left-back Cristian Chivu, but reports in Italy say that they will face competition from Valencia and Napoli for his signature.

With domestic target Gael Clichy set to join Manchester City instead , Kenny Dalglish may now turn his attentions back to the Romanian defender.

Chivu has a year to run on his contract and would like to stay in Milan but it is uncertain whether he figures in the long-term plans of new boss Gian Piero Gasperini.

Really? Couldn't this "journalist" at least pick up on what was said yesterday and changed a few things around to at least seem like a more educated guess.  Perhaps guessed Santon at the very least?  Pass on Chivu, I wouldn't have minded him here a few years ago at the right price (which wouldn't have happened unless it was a hypothetical situation anyhow), but certainly not now.

Considering that Chivu is actually younger than Gerrard, that is hardly the right description ... Personally, I doubt that we will get him, but he is a versatile player (central defender, left fullback, defensive midfielder) who has been playing at the highest level for many years ...

The difference is Gerrard is already here. If he was at Inter for example, we wouldn't be interested in signing him now.

Just because we've got it wrong with Cole, Jovanovic, Poulsen and Konchesky last summer, it doesn't means that there isn't some 30-year-old player out there, that could significantly help our team ... Remeber, we've got Gary McAllister at the age of 35 ...
