Dietmar Hamman - New Stockport County Manager

Dietmar Hamann to take over at Stockport County

Stockport County have confirmed the appointment of Hamann, 37, on a one-year deal comes following the takeover of the club by a Liverpool-based consortium, headed by Tony Evans.

Hamann spent last season working on the coaching staff at Leicester City under Sven Goran Eriksson.

Evans, who has the option of talking a majority share in the club, heads a new consortium of business people set to invest at Edgeley Park.

Hamann, who enjoyed the pinnacle of his career with Liverpool in Istanbul in 2005 when he came on as a half-time substitute to help turn round a 3-0 deficit and win the Champions League final, will start his managerial career in the Conference.

That follows Stockport's relegation in May - to end a 105-year tenure in the Football League.

F***ing hell I've just heard this, now I'm not on about Didi, I'm on about the Director of Stockport who appointed Didi, he's a mate of my brothers who used to come the match with us when Didi was playing for the Reds.

I remember listening to his interview on SSN and he said he'll target players from the premier league clubs (loan deals I'd guess) and he said that If Liverpool or any of his former clubs wanted to loan a young player, he'd be more then happy to take him. It would seem likely that a few loans might be happening at Stockport next season. Just a guess.
