Adam certainly isn't the greatest player to pull on a LFC shirt but some of the abuse is ridiculous. Spearing is crap and takes no where near the same level of abuse because he is a Liverpool lad.

      Actually isn't, Spearing's a wool from Birkenhead!!

Hated the abuse he got from some of the fans (a lot actually). I feel he did do alright for the fee we paid for him and I'm happy enough to have seen him play here. I hope he's had a year to remember. He's got a league cup medal and hopefully found the pride in playing in that famous red strip.

Good luck Charlie! I think you'll be brilliant at Stoke and I'm sure you will ALWAYS be welcomed and appreciated for your time when you get back to Anfield with Stoke. YNWA.

RIP Charlie Adam Snr: Stoke and former Liverpool midfielder shocked by sudden death of father

Stoke star and former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam was heartbroken following the sudden death of his father, writes the Daily Record's Keith McLeod

Former footballer Charlie Adam senior was found dead on Monday afternoon.

The full circumstances of the 50-year-old’s death are not yet known.

A family friend said: “Charlie, his younger brother Grant and their brother and sister are deeply shocked by this.

“They don’t know all of the facts at the moment, so it would be wrong for anybody to say anything.

“They have not had a chance to understand this. It is a sensitive situation.”

Charlie senior played as a midfielder and striker for St Johnstone, Brechin City, Dundee United, Partick Thistle, Forfar Athletic and Arbroath.

He began his football career playing for Dundee Downfield in his home city.

After a successful spell with Brechin City in the lower leagues, he got a move to Dundee United in 1989.

His skill and dead-ball expertise were never in doubt. But as a Dundee United player in the Premier League, Charlie played only a handful of games before being moved on to Partick Thistle.

He was a Rangers fan and it was this that made his then 15-year-old son sign for the Ibrox club, despite being on Celtic’s radar.

Charlie senior took a keen interest in the careers of Charlie and his brother Grant.

After young Charlie left Rangers for Blackpool, his dad criticised the English club’s chairman Karl Oyston when he thought a proposed move to Liverpool was being hindered.

He said: “This is nothing to do with football or even money. This is about Karl Oyston and my Charles. It’s become personal.”

Charlie junior, 27, was in dispute with Blackpool over a £20,000 unpaid bonus and won his case last year.

His father said of the row: “It seems to me like the chairman of Blackpool is basically saying, ‘You’re not getting a move no matter what’.

“He’s holding a grudge and it’s holding back my son’s career. They paid £500,000 for a player they’re being offered £6.5million for.

“I see this as a chance of a lifetime being denied my son.”

Charlie senior had the same touch on the ball and range of passing as his son.

But because he was bigger, he was a much more physical player.

Some in the game, however, felt his attitude and commitment were not up to the mark – a tag that has been passed on to Charlie junior, despite his successful career with Rangers, Blackpool, Liverpool, Scotland and current club Stoke.

Grant, 21, is a goalkeeper on loan at Airdrie from St Mirren. He also played for Rangers.

Stoke, who play Tottenham on Saturday, issued a short statement expressing their sympathy to their midfielder and family.

"All our thoughts are with Charlie and his family at this difficult time," said the statement. "Out of respect to the family, players and staff at the club will not be making any press comment over the Christmas period.

Had a bit of a shock when I saw that on the BBC earlier.  Then I saw the age and realised it wasn't our ex Charlie.  But then I saw it was his dad.  Sad news, 50's no age is it :(

      RIP Charlie Snr.
