Doesn't seem to put hopeless balls into the box anymore.
This is certainly his biggest improvement, IMO. Last season he would just cross the ball without even looking, now he is actually aiming for his target, which often means a low cross (more like a pass) to the center of the area for someone to attempt a one timer - and that's better than just crossing for the sake of it.
However, I don't think he's been playing well. I think he set the standards for himself so low that any improvement makes him look like a new player. He's still pretty harmless to defenses, and teams know that, so they give him more space. 9 out of 10 times he is unable to beat his man which is a bloody joke to be honest. He has a lot of time on the ball every game and still doesn't produce much of note.
If I was an opposite manager, I would certainly give more room to Stewart and focus my attention on our real threats, like Suarez and Sturridge.
