Thought he was good overall today.

Worked well, set up a chance our two in the first half, but in the second half he was very good. Whenever he had the ball, he did something constructive with it and anticipated and took his goal well. It was probably our most important goal too cos it gave us the belief that we could go on and get a result.

Played really well. Read the script when others weren't so keen too. Was very sure about what time he would shoot...uncomfortably too sure but he scored the goal and provided a strong right wing in a match where I thought Glen Johnson was very poor. I thought he conducted himself so well today. My motm! His performances are reminding me of Harry Kewell's solid efforts during the second half of the 05/06 season (Harry scored a brilliant winner against Spurs that season). Well worth his starting spot.

I thought Stewart was excellent today. I was a little nervy when he had that chance to score! A couple of inches either way, it's stopped by Vertonghen, but that's football. It wasn't stopped and we won the game as a result of his equalizer. Nice to see Downing play well over a sustained period of time. I'd probably give him MOTM. He was an outlet on the right and he put in a good shift. Second-straight game with a goal to boot!

Got my vote for MotM, with displays like that and he'll be removed from weakest link in the first XI sharpish.

Personally think that was his best display for us in a red shirt, always wanted the ball, even when he committed a silly foul at the end you could see the anger he had towards the mistake, that's the kind of attitude that makes you improve lad and well deserves all the credit today in what was one our toughest games of the season.

Do it again lad, or at least close to that for the remaining games and you'll get a "not for sale" sign over your head in no time.

Thought he had a great game today, possibly his best performance all season.

Well done Stewart, you should be proud of yourself.

Now that was a 7/10 performance, made better by being standout in a day of 5 to 6 out of 10 performances.

Played well today did Stewart. Taking his goal out of the performances I thought he was a direct threat in attack but for me even better was his work rate in defence. Put in some good challenges and pressed really well, which incidentally resulted in his goal.

Forgot about his defensive work. At times Glen Johnson really struggled yet Stewart came onto the scene a couple of times to save his skin. Top work.

      Absolutely.
Sometimes it's as important for a player to be reliable.
      Helps get consistency.

      A goal also helps.

My first trip to Anfield this season since the City game at the start of the season. whta stood out most of all for me was Downing's workrate and physicality. Yes he played another 7 out of 10 but he puts in a 7 virtually EVERY week so that'll do for me.

Baffles me people thought he was anything other than average today.

Was a passenger for most of the match.

Nah to be fair mate, when he got the ball he did something useful and direct with it. Well taken goal, and kept the ball well when wasting time towards the end.

Lucas on the other hand gave the ball away nearly everytime he had, as did Sturridge.

I don't need to stick other players in the conversation.

I thought Downing was his normal self. Which lately has been decent, but any more than that is going too far.

I'm not his biggest fan but i have to appreciate the effort and change in his recent form - he has definately turned a corner since the new year. Other than Luis he was our stand out performer against Spuds and had a good day.

the Stewie bashing is alive and well i see , in fairness why not give the man some support and get behind him . He's been playing good football of late and has made a turn around , can't knock that can we ?

The second videos shows Downing defending Suarez and then protect him from getting anything bad from Suarez. Well done Stewart!!!

So calling a player consistent is going too far?

Jesus. 2 in 2 and he gets some praise.
It's not like we've said he's the next Coutinho.

Although in fairness Downing > Bale.

Had reservations meself mate but am really made up for the lad he's hit a run of form, no one can put a negative slant on that.

In the team on merit currently rather than before when we had no other options.

Been impressed with him for a month or more now.  Keep it up Stewie!
