Are people getting confused between this pre season kick about thread for that of the knee jerk?

Was just thinking that.  We've won two and lost one.  The season hasn't started.  Players are not at their peak yet.  Many nailed on starters did not play today and we are a week behind Hull's preparation (the championship starts a week earlier).

I'm letting KD and the coaching team get on with their preparation, so I will not be making any suggestions as to who they should be playing and for how long in the next game.  If we get any more new signings then great, if not then we'll just have to live with it until at least january.  I am sure KD is aware of where he needs to strengthen.

no more than last season though, surely?

our defence is the only part of our line-up that hasn't undergone a major shake-up

shake-ups starting from the winter transfer windows

      and we'll score more goals

      otherwise what's all this for?

And the mad thing is there is rumours around Bayern Munich are interested in Agger

Brilliant news if true, it would push us to get a proper, solid CB who will play alongside Skrtel, 38 games a season for the next five years+

What's mad about that? Agger is a top class defender. The best one we have here.

agger is great, he just can't get games in with carra and skrtl in there

i don't see why agger can't be that solid CB when carra retires

he just always gets played out of position at LB

even there, i'd say he's better than our other options

Think he meant it is mad that we may be weakening our defence when it has been poor?

Because he won't start more than half of the games due to a succession of injuries.

Besides the obvious defence problems, I was pleasantly surprised with Hendo today after his sh*t performances for U-21 side. He will be a good player for us. Really modest and hard working guy, that is what I like to see in footballer. Downing performed well, too.

Adam and Carroll were decent, IMO, but nothing else. While I'm not overly concerned about Charlie since we have so much quality in midfield, Andy should do better. However, he seems to be improving with each game, gaining fitness and playing time. He really needs some goals and I hope he can score a few in the following matches.

With Gerrard, Lucas, Suarez, Johnson and Reina our performance will improve. The key will be to get them fit and ready.

Exactly, even with the stronger second half team, we were still missing... Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Gerrard, Lucas, Suarez... six nailed on first team players, as well as a proper left-back we may or may not be buying.  Let's not fret about this result.

      u would sell agger then?

who would u sign in his place?

      think we've gone slightly off-topic

ANY stand-out defensive performances for u today?

      Yes :(

I'd leave that up to the scouts, DC and KK.  I don't watch enough football to scout other players, but from what I've watched on MoTD, I'd be happy with Scott Dann as a back-up to Carra for now. Cahill may be a decent signing.

No stand-out players, Henderson, Downing were good, Poulsen is sh*t, we need a CB, not much else to say.

henderson and downing were solid, more than happy with all our summer signings

totally agree that there's no place for poulsen

somewhere deep down i keep hoping he'll be the new superCDM but he just continues to disappoint me

i think i'll have to face it that he's not fit to lace masch's boots and never will be

I swear every single time Joe Cole or Ngog touched the ball i just wanted to close my eyes and cry somewhere. I can't wait to see suarez and downing play together :) (oh and never see joe cole on the field again...unless he volunteers to cut the grass or something usefull for that 90,000 pounds a week he gets)

I find the joe cole saga very upsetting

he'd shown promise in the world cup (or at least the warm-up games)

it was all downhill from that red

      then the injury

I wish him the best of luck in what he does next but I do find it unfortunate that events played out the way they did

disapointing yes... over reaction from some... yes

no one likes getting beat, and from the look on kennys face through the game he certainly didnt.. we were sloppy at the back but at the end of the day we got caught from two strikes from outside the box that could have been closed down quicker and from one where one man didnt push up for offside in a defence that have had no game time together..

the first half was flat.. not much to say positive about it, second half we played some nice stuff until we got caught for their third and went flat for a bit..

its only a friendly and id rather get a flat performance out of the way now.. kenny wont be letting that happen again soon I wouldnt think

im not going to pick out good or bad individual performance on that

In work all of today, so I missed this fiasco.

Personally I think there is only one person to blame and that is clint_call01.

We had done OK in the two previous pre-season games without a Live Game Thread, but clint had to have a Live Match Tread.

The first half defensive performance was down to Kelly and his mistakes and lack of positioning, the second half performance was due the the CB's and there lack of leadership, aka missing Carragher.

I dont think missing carragher was the problem. Id prefer if we bought a top class centre half and have carragher as back up

I would not mind the top class center half partnering the Carragher but to not have him starting would worry me, unless a leader was brought in, the breed of Terry, Ferdinand, someone who can lead from the back.
