Would absolutely love him here as back-up striker.

Would be an upgrade on NGog, but not massively so.  In the last year of his contract, I wouldn't pay more than a few million for him, with N'Gog going the other way (or pay £8m and sell N'Gog for £5m)

Unlike the example of Steven Fletcher (discussed on another thread), I think that Rodallega actually will represent a serious improvement over Ngog ... Apart from being able to play upfront, Rodallega is also capable of playing in the wide attacking positions, especially in the 4-3-3 ...

Interesting!  I'd take him over N'gog, but would he be satisfied as a back up striker?  He's 26, in his prime, would he come here?  Would be good for competition for places, everyone would have to be on their game or risk getting dropped.

As I have stated above, his ability to also play at the wide attacking positions would give him more playing time ...

It could do, but with the depth of our squad, would he really get a chance there?

Fletcher can play wide as well.

I'd also have Rodallega, though. Especially if we can get him on a free next season :D

Ngog or Rodallega - are we even thinking about the answer to this one.

Hugo every day of the week.

And a massive upgrade to Ngog.

Would be a good addition, and would keep Andy & Luis on their toes and also keep them fresh. Would be much more of a threat coming off bench than N'gog ever was. When N'gog comes on the opposition defence laugh & put on their slippers, Hugo would keep them alert.

Would be an excellent back-up IMO.

Ngog isnt fit to lace Hugos boots, frankly I would question Ngog's ability to lace his own boots, would probably fall over as usual

Martinez admits he's struggling to hang onto Rodallega

      Published 22:58 19/08/11
      By Alan Nixon

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez wants to keep star striker Hugo Rodallega - but admits he fears losing his best players.

Rodallega has delayed talks about extending a contract that expires at the end of the season, as Liverpool and Tottenham weigh up deadline-beating moves.

Martinez is keen to make the Colombian stay, but admits that the lure of top clubs will always make his job difficult - as he found when star man Charles N’Zogbia left for Aston Villa earlier this summer.

The Latics chief hopes a pay-rise - and maybe even a get-out price clause - will solve the Rodallega problem.

“We like to reward players for what they do here, and he [Rodallega] is no exception," said Martinez.

“He is a very important part of our plans. If he does well enough, it’s only fair that we do not stand in his way if the chance of a big move comes along.

“Unless we can go on to the next level, and perhaps make it into one of the European competitions, it is impossible to keep players when they are in the best moments of their careers.

“I would never stop of player moving on to a different aspect of their career, but it has to be the right option for all concerned.

“When you are successful at a club like Wigan, you are going to lose players. That is the reality and you have to accept it.

"I think we are prepared to lose players, allow them to move on when a big offer comes in, as we showed with Charles.”

Wigan want £9million for Rodallega and could price him out of a move, but Martinez is anxious about not losing too many more players without bringing in replacements.

"We are light on numbers, and will work hard to sign two or three," said the Spaniard, "but I honestly believe this group of players are stronger now than what we had last season.”

This guy scored just less then 1 goal for every 4 caps sice he joined a premiership side. If most of them caps were a full game, no thanks! not for 9m, we already have Ngog who can score that less freqently. Does anybody know if he was given full games or not?

I do think this lad is an improvement on Ngog but I don't think he's a big enough improvement that we should be looking for. Like today when we brought on Meireles and Suarez it felt like we're gonna do something. If we brought on Rodallega I just wouldn't feel he'd have an impact and he's certainly not a starter given the players we have here. Have to sign someone better than Kuyt to really improve the squad, signing a 4th striker that is destined to replace a 4th striker isn't how you improve even if he is slightly better, you must push someone down the rungs to improve and therefore I wouldn't welcome this signing.

I don't think he is any better than Ngog. He is 4 years older though. Why would Liverpool want to pay 9m and sell Ngog for 4m for somebody older.
