Liverpool have enquired about taking Lazio's Argentinian striker Mauro Zarate, 24, on loan.

I think that Lotito is holding out for his valuation (€4 million loan fee, plus €16 million for a permanent transfer next summer) ...

Actually, he was pretty solid at Birmingham, and was Lazio's best player over the past 3 seasons, bringing them very close to CL qualification last season (they've lost the 4th spot to Udinese, on goal difference), but please don't let this distract you ...

Ah, but it would be nice to take a 20M player on loan for a season and then rebuff the loan agreement and send him back to Italy after he helps us back into the CL for next season

Agree with Mac.  Zarate has been very good in Italy for the last few seasons, and could be a very good addition to our front line.  Some questions can be asked about his temperament, but in terms of sheer talent and ability, this kid is fantastic!  He has pace, trickery, and ball skills that can unlock tight defenses!

It's unfair to say he did F**k all at Birmingham, in the very few games he played he was amazing, remember a free kick he scored that was a beauty, but his manager was Alex McLeish and this guy can't stand good football being played at this club. So he picked Forssell instead.
