      Pre-match: Brighton vs Liverpool (21/9/11)
      Sep 19, 2011 07:00:25 am
It is better to forget the past and look into the future.

Liverpool travel to Brighton this Wednesday and will face the team placed third in the championship. Brighton will face Liverpool after losing their game to Leicester 1-0 on 17th September.

      Form guide Brighton : DWWWL
      Form guide Liverpool: WWWLL

I will go with the following team:

                                            Doni

      Flanno/Kelly           Carra            Coates            Robinson

                                  Spearo           Shelvey

      Kuyt                           Gerrard                         Maxi

                                        Bellamy

Prediction - 2-0 to Liverpool. Bellamy and Maxi to score

P.S. This is the first time I am starting a pre-match thread. Any suggestions are welcome.

I think we would be fielding a strong team especially after the last two league performances.Kenny would surely not want to get caught short this time around.Let's smack them ruthlessly and build up some momentum.I hope Bellamy shows Kenny he deserves to start every match for us.He is a better option than Hendo on the right as well as Carroll playing upfront with Suarez.

Expect a stong team similar to the one that faced Brighton in the last round.

We must start buliding momentum again after the last two matches so this becomes an important game for me now.

Hopefully we will see Stevie from the bench with all things going well, good preparation for him to maybe start versus Wolves next weekend.

                      Pepe

      Flanno  Carra Coates  Robinson

      Kuyt    Spearing Shelvey  Maxi

                 Carroll   Bellamy

Subs - Suarez, Gerrard, Downing, Lucas

I admire your confidence mate  but no goalie I think that will be asking too much. For what it is worth I think Kenny will field the strongest team available.cheers.

Really difficult one to judge this.

Yes, we've lost our last two league games - but surely that makes Saturday's game (as opposed to this) even more important?

Also worth bearing in mind that the players, even though they were sh*t, did play nearly a full half with 9 men.  I'm sure that will have had some impact on them.

I'd be all for playing our strongest team both on Wednesday and on Saturday but I'm not sure if it's going to be the best strategy.

Either way - we should win both.

We best get to winning ways sharpish. Like JD, I'm all for the best team for Wednesday but it may impact us on Saturday but I'm willing to take the chance to put in the strongest midweek then the best we can also on Saturday.

Better than putting a second strengthed squad on Wednesday only to get knocked out and feel double the pressure by the weekend.

                                              Pepe

      Flanno          Carragher                    Skrtel/Coates          Enrique

                  Spearing/Henderson                    Lucas

      Kuyt                              Gerrard                                Maxi/Downing

                                      Suarez/Bellamy

Get the business down early then we can take off the likes of Suarez (if he starts) and Gerrard (for a rest).

There are two ways to look at this game. We could play our strongest side against a team we should beat to try and get some confidence back or we could change and play a team similar to the one against Exeter which would give other players a chance to stake a claim for starting at the weekend.

I think I'd go for a few changes and let the likes of Lucas, Pepe, Suarez, Downing get a break and focus for the league game.

I think I'd start Maxi insted on Suraez Saint but that looks good to me. Gerrard needs the fitness and I think Carroll needs confidence.

These games are partly why we've bought Adam and got Bellamy back and it'll be good for Jay and Seb especially to get some game time.

      Had the same reaction.

They both had a rest yesterday (:f_tongueincheek:), and don't need resting for the next league match.

A chance for them to prove their worth to the team as well, perhaps, to make up for some rash challenges against Spurs.

These are the types of games that Henderson & Adam should be playing in & atm so should Carroll. I'd like to see the following with a 20mins cameo from Gerrard.

      Pepe as Captain

      Flanno.................S krtel..............Coate s..............Robinson
      ........................ ..........Spearing
      ..............Henderson. ........................ ...Adam
      Bellamy................. .........Carroll........ ...................Maxi

It was a good theory mate, but apparently Skrtel and Adam will serve their ban against Brighton!

Need to progress in this competition whatever, to keep our hopes of a domestic trophy alive after Sunday's shambolic defeat. I would go for a near full strength side.

We need to start playing our only natural finisher in Bellamy imo and if Gerrard and Kelly are available, I'd use them as sub and ease both back slowly after 65 mins.

Spearing, Maxi, Kuyt, Coates, Flannagan and Bellamy should start imo.

I think there's a storm heading there way!!!

Strong team, angry team (not as in red cards galore) but a team wanting to make things right, to show how much sunday p**sed them off and hurt each and every one of them (hopefully anyhow).
I belive it will be a big win for us, 4 or 5 will do nicely.
But I would take a 1-0 as long as we play as well as we know we can.   ;D

      I'd go with this

                              Doni
      Flanaghan    Carragher Coates  Enrique
(or Kelly - is he fit?)

                              Lucas

                 Spearing             Gerrard

      Bellamy                                   Downing

                             Carroll

Great opportunity for Gerrard to get a feel for our all new left hand side and for the big man to hopefully get a couple.
