I think he would be wise to stay put at Rangers for the time being, there is too much hiring & firing in the premier league at present. Gerrard is relatively young and has plenty of time on his side to move up the ladder in football management .

Sounds like he off. Hearing too many stories from various sources for something not to be happening. talks at the very minimum.

he needs at least another season at Rangers and more experience in Europe. Why isnt John Terry in the frame he knows the club inside out

Leaving Rangers midway through the season not a good look.

There will be premier league openings next season, he should finish up at Rangers this year and then go job hunting in the premier league if that's what he really wants.

I think it is a good move for Gerrard, he cut his teeth with Rangers, won the title and good runs in Europa Leagues. Villa is a good opportunity to see what he can do at the Premiership level and if he want to manage Liverpool in the future this is as good a stepping stone as he is going to get.

Not the best move to be making IMO. Would’ve been good for him to see out the season with Rangers and hopefully win them a 2nd league title. Believe they are still in Europe too?

Going to a club that’s a bit of a mess at a difficult time, will be more pressure on him to go and steady a difficult team than if he was to take over in the summer. If Villa goes badly for him then it could hurt his chances of taking charge with us one day.

Not sure what Villa expect though, last season was a fluke season for them, being as strong as they were. But like Newcastle, they seem to think they are bigger than what they actually are.

      I don't get it...

Is the Villa job interesting? Yes, it's a decent challenge.
But is it interesting enough to leave his Rangers position mid-season? Definitely not. And it's not like he has any sentimental attachment to Villa either.

He could finish the season where he is, possibly winning back to back titles, and leave Glasgow a 'legend'. There would be a few Premier league clubs ready to jump at the chance to hire him.
Leaving now? And for Villa? It would be spitting in the face of all the Rangers fans.

Will be disappointed in Stevie G if he suddenly dumps Rangers midseason. After having achieved so much with them to now suddenly leave them midseason is just very poor.

I understand wanting/needing a bigger challenge by managing a PL team, but come summer time he likely could have had other opportunities as well.

It’s a step up - big step up , going from a minor league into the biggest league in the world

Villa are a decent club pedigree- he will see it as the perfect stepping stone

It's a step up, but it's also not a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He can wait until the end of the season, finish what he started at Rangers, and he'll still have his pick of Premier league jobs.

He still has a long managerial career ahead of him. Why rush things now?

Because the opportunity is there now - no one knows what opportunities will be around in the summer. Not sure he would have the pick of his premier league jobs at all in the summer. He has done well up there but the first role in the Prem is key. He knows this job is the right way to go

Did you see rangers accounts the other week ? They are fu**ed again, 30mill losses.

The shares thing was a failure.

And look's like Celtic are getting stronger again, no debt.

If I were him I'd get out asap

For Gerrard to accept the position at Villa & leave Rangers early season who took a chance on him could indicate all was not well behind the scenes at Ibrox.. was on a decent number there..

All the best Stevie lad.. hope to bump into him around Brum..

Surprised he left Rangers mid season and won't go down well with the Rangers fans but it's a step in the right direction. He's working up the ranks the right way and not doing a Ole straight in the big time only to make himself look like a Cnut.

Much as I don't like SG for obvious reasons you can't knock how his management career has gone so far. Started well at Rangers and put them back on the map. He now moves up the ladder to a Premier league cup and not a bad one at that. Villa have a decent history and all though not accieved anything in a while it's the perfect step for the next part of SG career as a manager.

Obviously it's a big step up in class going from Scottish football to Premier league but  do think he will do ok. Hopefully I'm wrong and he fails  ;D However, if things do go well you know his next job will be taking Klopps when he retires or moves on.
