The man gets mentioned in the same breathe as The King FFS as if that isn't an honour in it's self??

I drink with a few staunch Reds who have got twenty years on me and at least half of them say he is the greatest ever for us 'talent wise'.

Whether it's him or The King I am not really that arsed because I am just eternally grateful for the memories that he has given me of which will become stories that I can tell my little boy.

Just like the ones my Dad used to tell me about Kenny....and Emlyn...and Callaghan...and Toshack...and Byrne...and St John..and so and so on and so on...

They're absolutely priceless.

Don't think this thread should become an argument about who has been our greatest though as 1) Stevie is still playing, 2) Who cares? and 3) It will just invite the un-educated 'don't know what you've got til it's gone, Stevie is finished, Stevie's bird does this and that etc etc etc etc etc' brigade in.

See various Steven Gerrard titled threads for evidence of gobshites who just want to slag him off.

IMO he is the greatest LFC player.

Let's not get carried away debating who is the greatest Liverpool FC player ever because everyone has their reasons to support their opinions but that's not what this thread is about.

Let's just rejoice what Steven Gerrard has offered in the past 20 years+ years here and that Kenny Dalglish is currently our manager.

For players like Kaka and Zinedine Zidane to come out and talk about Steven Gerrard says it all about the man.

The moment he snubbed Chelsea's offer to stay with us, he became the greatest ever player for me.

Dalglish played in greater Liverpool sides.

And with 'greater' Liverpool players; yet he still stood out head and shoulders above them. 

On topic: Ste Gerrard is, quite simply, the dog's bollocks. If he were to play left back - he'd be the best left back in the league, centre forward - the same. He can play any position, any role, to the nth degree. For me: the complete footballer.

Aren't we lucky to have seen him in all his pomp and even luckier that he's a Red?

Greatest complete footballer ever. I think whatever position he had decided to play in he would have been a star. I don't think anyone has ever deserved a League title more, and I think he will finally get one under Kenny. I just hope he scores the final goal that clinches the title for us.   

He's a great footballer, very talented and hardworking, a born leader, he's a true roll-model of how an athlete should be on and off the pitch, someone to whom children can and should look up to. For me he is the complete modern footballer. So proud and privileged to being able to watch him play.

My question, who's next?

Steven epitomises one of Shanks philosophies,in that whatever position he desired to play he would be the best, I believe Shanks once said that had he been employed by Liverpool burgh council sweeping the streets, they would the cleanest streets in the world,simply because he wanted to be the best that whatever he did, simples really, and another reason why our club,our institution has to have that element of having local lads from the local community wearing the red shirt, Shanks knew it and Kenny knows it,keeping the home fires burning.   YNWA

Great player and no doubt an Anfield legend. Him and King Kenny are probably on a par in terms of how good of a player they were although Kenny pips him for me as he did it as a player/manager aswell as winning the Championship. Im gona break the mould though and say our greatest ever player in terms of sheer footballing ability was Barnsey!

Words just don't describe this man's genius.
