Same reason as Ashley Young has in diving for 2 penalties and others have for waving imaginairy cards at referees after fouls. Because they are all interested in one thing.Winning at all costs
Youâre right that it is the same mentality, but it just seems like scoring is (should be) far less âsubjective" than receiving a penalty or a card for a foul-- the ball either crosses the line, or it doesnât. You shouldnât be able to convince the refs youâve scored when you genuinely havenât. There are moments where the goal crosses, and a player might celebrate before itâs been disallowed (i.e., Suarezâs âhandballâ goal, a few weeks ago), but in this particular moment, the ball simply didnât cross the line, and Mata appeared to celebrate rather prematurely. It's a shame if the officials were persuaded, in any way, by his reaction, but I guess it strengthens the argument for goal-line technology, regardless of why they awarded it.
