Tottenham Hotspur snooped on Olympic Park board, claims chairman

Tottenham Hotspur ordered the surveillance of members of the Olympic Park Legacy Company board during their bid for the Olympic Stadium, OPLC chairman Baroness Ford has claimed.

Ford said that Tottenham had all 14 members of the board monitored by private investigators, describing the actions as among a number of dirty tricks during the bid process that were “not very pleasant”.

Appearing before a London Assembly committee this morning Ford said that the Metropolitan Police were investigating the surveillance allegations.
“All 14 members of my board were placed under surveillance by Tottenham Hotspur, the chairman of Tottenham and the Metropolitan Police are investigating that,” Ford said. “That is the kind of behaviour I did not anticipate and it has not been pleasant.”

Ford’s comments were immediately rejected by Tottenham, who described
them as “appalling”, and have instructed their lawyers to examine their options.

Dee Doocey, the chairman of the London Assembly economy, sport and culture committee, said Tottenham’s alleged conduct as “reprehensible and disgraceful”. She may also now be contacted by Tottenham’s lawyers to clarify the position for the public record.

The police investigation into Tottenham’s use of investigators from accountants PKF was launched after it was revealed that an OPLC director had been paid £20,000 by West Ham for consultancy work during the bid process.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Economic and Specialist Crime Command unit are also examining allegations of data-theft relating to West Ham directors including Karren Brady.

The police confirmed this morning that the investigation is ongoing, but would not comment on the specifics or Ford’s allegation.

Ford’s comments came at the end of an hour-long session during which she said the Olympic Stadium was “in a good place” despite the collapse of the original West Ham-Newham bid last month.

Very dishonest if true. No room for such dishonesty and they should receive a very large fine, by large, I mean tens of millions or a points penalty.

I'm sure this isn't proper use of a club's scouting network.
