      Gazza's Sectioned
      Feb 21, 2008 02:01:53 pm
Seems that Gazza has finally lost the plot:
      From BBC

      Gazza held after hotel incident

Gascoigne was capped 57 times for England
Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has been detained under the Mental Health Act following an incident at a hotel in Newcastle.
Northumbria Police said a 40-year-old man was detained following a report of disorderly behaviour at the Malmaison Hotel early on Wednesday.

Officers later visited Mr Gascoigne at Gateshead's Hilton Hotel after concerns were raised about his behaviour.

Police said he was not in custody and was now receiving medical treatment.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police attended the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead yesterday evening after we received a report of concern for a 40-year-old man staying at the hotel."

"The man was detained under the Mental Health Act, and no-one was injured during the incident."

Gascoigne has battled for some time with alcohol and health problems.

In January 2005, he was hospitalised with pneumonia and last year he underwent emergency surgery for a perforated stomach ulcer after being taken ill as he was celebrating his 40th birthday.

He was arrested for an alleged assault on a photographer outside a Liverpool city centre hotel in 2005. The charges were later dropped.

A former player with Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio, Glasgow Rangers and Middlesbrough, he was sacked after 39 days as manager of Kettering Town in 2005.

He was capped 57 times for England.

Shame really that the lovable clown that we call Gazza has fallen to this. Always gave his all but never achived much as never played for a top English team, (BS readers note never played for a top English team) and only 40. Seems he really has gone down the road to rack and ruin.
Sad really, gave so much and got nothing back.

Look at the state of him here in tomorrow's Sunday Mirror:

Going by the photo....he does look bad.....however, we have too remember that the for the media he will always be a loose cannon. They make him out too be completely bonkers, but in the UK I'm sure there will be many more people in a much worse state than he is but he media want too blow him up too be a bloated, overweight, loser.

Although I might be bias because I genuinely despise the media!!

That's very true. The media would have us believe that Gazza is a one-off, when the real truth is that he isn't and there are others in the same or worse situations.

And I've not got much time for the media.

You'd think some one in the football world would take Gazza under their wing, hate to say it but that drunken old soal down old toilet would have probably been perfect for Gazza, don't think anyone has ever been to reign Gazza in so his demons have just been left to run riot.

Wouldn't care I like Gazza, he seems a genuine bloke and wears his heart on his sleeve, he'll be dead in 5 - 10 years time and a few people like Jimmy Five Bellies, Chris Evans and Danny Baker will have played a part in that, his 'Good Mates' that continued to stand by and watch/participate whilst Gazza continued to pump himself full of drink and drugs.

Just been reading Peter Scmicheal's comments on this and basically I agree with every thing he says.

In a nutshell he's saying the PFA should step in as they have an obligation to players both past and present, even if that player has failed in previous efforts its no reason to give up on him.

I applaud Schmicheal for that, because he's right.

You probably had the same experience Daz in knowing people who gave up and succumbed to addiction, that is the top and bottom of the horror story and whether it's a celebrity or an alco on a park bench the path to destruction is the same.
Alcohol has taken more friends and relations than anything else, indeed I know of drug addicts (in the recognised sense of the word) who continue to dabble but do moderate their intake, for many years.
Alcohol while not usually associated with the phrase ''drug addict'' is more addictive and freely available than any other noxious substance. If Gazza did not have the benefit of being able to do rehab as he has and the celebrity status that as good as monitors his addiction, he would have been dead years ago.
Unfortunately if the alco cannot find anyone to encourage him he does not need any help in acquiring and consuming his addiction, a bit of company is an improvement but not an essential.

I know the company is not required mate to help him drink, but the company could keep him off it.

I tend to look at it from the perspective of if it was one of my mates, would I take my mate an alcohol and drug addict to socialise where drink and drugs are rife and basically encourage him or would I take him to socialise as far away from that temptation as possible.

It would be the latter mate, which is at completely different ends of the spectrum to, Chris Evans, Danny Baker and Jimmy Five Bellies.

What you say is totally correct Daz about keeping temptation as far away as possible and where that is feasible can produce results.
Unfortunately the majority of addicts where possible will actively avoid any process to deprive them of the gear.
A good friend of mine passed away last year, he drank himself to death despite the fact that he was told in the hospital that if he continued drinking it would kill him.
Every time I spoke to him in the last few weeks of his life he was pissed.
He had acquired a lifestyle that did not entail the approval of others after moving from Liverpool some time ago.
If all else fails the confirmed addict will structure his lifestyle around his addiction.

Gazza thanks those who helped him including our very own Steven Gerrard

      http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/308683/Gazza-might-drink-again/

PAUL GASCOIGNE has thanked the Premier League stars who saved his life before warning: “I might drink again.”

The football legend made a tearful appearance on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man in which he praised players for paying for his recent stint in rehab.

He revealed that among the generous pals who dug deep were Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard.

But Gazza, 45, then admitted that he missed the booze and will not rule out going on another drinking binge.

Raising concerns that he left rehab too soon, he said: “It’s been three months since I had a drink. I do miss a pint.

“I’ll never say never. I might drink again in the future.

“I don’t plan to, I’ve got to keep my eye on the ball and do the right things. But I’ve got an addictive personality.

"For me it’s just that I fancy a pint. I think I’ll be alright for one and I get too excited. It’s all right getting there but once I’m drunk I’m a nightmare.”

Gazza’s confession is a blow to the footballers and showbiz stars who stumped up the cash to get him to the £7,500-a-week Cottonwood clinic in Arizona.

Manchester United striker Rooney, 27, Liverpool ace Gerrard, 32, Arsenal star Jack Wilshere, 21, Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker, 52, and DJ Chris Evans, 47, all helped him.

They stepped in following his last bender after which he “woke up with two empty litres of gin, six bottles of wine and about eight cans”. He spent three days in a coma.

Gazza said: “I like to think they saved a good man. The support I got was fantastic.

“A few of them didn’t want to be mentioned but it was Gary Lineker, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere, there was Sir Alan Sugar – I mean, wow, that man is so tight he only cries from one eye, so that was nice.

“I think Man United chipped in – there were loads of people.

“Whatever money was left was given to other funds. Chris Evans was fantastic, he got the ball rolling.

“From the bottom of my heart I am really grateful.”

Daily Star owner Richard Desmond was also among the supporters who chipped in to help out.

Chatty Man bosses removed all traces of alcohol from the set before Gazza arrived. Champagne and beer was boxed up and Alan’s drinks cabinet was filled with fruit juice.

But Gazza, who was tearful during the interview, said he had no problem getting his hands on booze and off-licences around the country still serve him.

He explained: “I can get booze anywhere. If I see someone struggling in the street I’ll go and buy them a packet of cigarettes or I buy them a drink because I know what it’s like to detox. It’s horrific.”

The England legend also revealed he had given away most of his fortune to the needy.

He said: “While I was playing I gave £1million to charity. Nobody knows that.

“I’ve had old dears sending me letters saying they don’t have enough money for Christmas dinner so I’ve sent them money.

“If all the Premier League players did that there would be £60m in a fund for people to get well.”

I'm not a fan of his although I do recognise he was an incredible footballer. I really hope he stays safe and that he surrounds himself around people who will keep him strong.
