I cannot believe some on here having a go at Andy Carroll.

He was only on for 13 minutes, and it's not like he had the ball for those 13 minutes either. What little I did see of him, he was tracking back and harassing all the time, and was unlucky on the end of one cross. Seems like some can't wait to slag the guy off.

Yet nothing said about Suarez hitting the woodwork because he slammed the ball instead of side footing it into an empty net, and then making two or three terrible choices to shoot when there were players in acres of space screaming for the ball. Some can do no wrong some can do no right.

      Perspective.

      Excellent post...agree completely.

      Great result.

Although again, it could have been more. 3 points is the main thing!

      You know JD, I know what you are saying but please allow me to play devil's advocate here;

I am starting to believe that the "fatal flaw" in English football is this obsession with "putting in crosses".

As far as I am concerned players should always be looking for PASSES to better placed colleagues not just hitting crosses "into dangerous areas".

Seriously, how many goals really get scored from aimless crosses? Defenders just love them.

This was why, IMHO, Pennant looked good statistically but, in real life, was next to useless for us.

Time may be warping my memory but I don't ever recall our great wide players of the past (e.g. Thompson, Heighway, Callaghan, McDermott, Barnes, et al) just banging the ball across the penalty area and I am totally sure Barcelona don't do it on any kind of regular basis.

No, I want to see ALL our players looking for "incisive passes" not just hitting it into space just HOPING someone gets on the end of it.

Just a thought or two to aid discussion.

      Really good point that.

Great opening 15 mins and I thought a spanking was on the cards... In all fairness it could well have been - if if was not forthe post, crossbar, deflections and a bit of luck..! We played very very well today against a decent (but not brilliant) team.

Player by player you can sing their praises. Agger was brilliant - that header just wide at the start of the second half shows why he is one of the best center backs in Europe - if that had gone in people would be raving about it! Suarez - dont think I need to say anything - Bellers looks like a steal. Enreque is just about the best wingback in the business - and Johnson looks to be improving. Downing cut in a lot and looked dangerous a few times, still setteling and getting better - as is Adam. Jonjo did what SPearing wanted to last week. The machine that is Skrtel was solid in defence and grabbed a goal. In fct the only downside was Henderson - but perhaps when I watch the game again later he did a lot of work that was unnoticed..?

If we play like that for December we will be looking good for the new year and that push on the top 4 - which again is harder than ever to get into...

A new Striker in the Jan window and a bit of cover is all we need, and perhaps a right winger?

Happy with the win and 3 points but with a bit of luck we could of had 5 or 6 goals.I thought Bellamy had a good game but he needs to watch himself with mouthing off to the ref all the time. The header from Skrtel went in like a bullet and young Shelvey never let us down and with a bit of luck could of scored.I will give the m.o.m to Bellamy.

We looked pretty good judging by the highlights and again creating plenty of chances which is good.

Defensively solid again and the settled back four is a huge advantage.

I thought Shelvey had a good game today.

He was the pick of the bunch for me.

Bellamy was good, but no more than I expect from him - Shelvey exceeded my expectations.

Shelvey and Henderson are the future.

Agger was VERY good as well.

Suarez is starting to annoy me - he does everything but score.

      Hendo had a decent game.

It's funny that he is praised for passing backwards and keeping possession when Lucas was slagged off for the same thing.

Currently watching the game recorded so haven't seen it all. Loved our play so far (21min) but knowing the score (can't help myself..) I feel that this is one of those games that a side needs to really thrash the opposition in, especially after two early  goals and most of the possession/attacking intent

Thought we could have won by 5 or 6. We controlled the game. I went for Johnson as man of the match thought he was excellant but then so were all the defence. Kenny is obviously encouraging the defenders to get forward love the way Agger is bombing forward as well.

Only negative for me is it is clear as day we need a clinical striker if we had one with the amount of chances we create we would be a lot closer to the top of the league
Echo your thoughts about Kenny's tactics and for me also Glen was MOTM, the striker quandery prevails and instead of the dubious strip, lumberjack shirts should have been the order of the day - the number of times they stuck the wood was unbelievable.
