Liverpool FC make enquiry for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent

      http://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/liverpool-fc/1215036-liverpool-fc-make-enquiry-for-aston-villa-striker-darren-bent.html

Liverpool have made an enquiry for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent.

The 27-year-old will be sacrificed by Villa boss Alex McLeish as he attempts to bolster the mid-table side's transfer kitty during the upcoming window.

Speculation over Bent's future has began to mount after injury sidelined him for Villa's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool earlier this month yet was photographed shopping in Cambridge on the same day.

His fire power and link-up play with England team mate Stewart Downing, who left Villa last summer, is understood to be the key motivation for Liverpool's Champions League charge.

Kenny Dalglish has been mulling over a move for the well-travelled hit man in light of the club's lack of clinical edge in front of goal, which has resulted in six home draws.

Luis Suarez's goal tally has stalled while Andy Carroll continues to shoulder the burden of the excessive £35million price tag which lured him to Anfield just 11 months prior.

Monday's stalemate with bottom club Blackburn Rovers has prompted Liverpool to signal their intent for Bent, who appears set to leave Villa Park almost a year since his arrival.

In spite of McLeish's doubt that 'anybody' could afford the club's record signing, the former Sunderland man will be allowed to leave for significantly less than his £24million valuation.

But Liverpool face competition from both Fulham and newly-promoted Queens Park Rangers.

Damien Comolli, the Reds' director of football, admitted last January that the club had considered a move for Bent prior to his move to Villa but claimed that his "lone wolf" approach to games would have proved incompatible with striker Fernando Torres, who later joined Chelsea.

Not sure about this fella me.

Seems like he has no love for the game in a way. Kind of goes through the motions maybe.

Can't quite put my finger on why but I just don't think he would be a success here.

      Gut feeling maybe.

As most probably know on here I'm a fan of Darren Bent and while admit his game is not as rounded as some centre forwards he scores goals which is something we are struggling to do so far this season.

His record in the league is fantastic and I've always thought he would comfortably get 20 a season playing in our team.

He makes more sense than Carroll did to be honest, he seems to link up well with Agbongyamothersawhore or however you spell his name well and given the chances we create he'd probably get goals.

Worth bearing in mind Commolli is a big admirer of Bent so this could have some legs, no where near my first choice signing, but if we do make a bid, I'll just have to trust Commolli and Kenny on this one.

Seen it all over twitter, really disappointing if its true.

Fair enough, hes knows were the net is (Sods law someone will reply saying "isn't that what we need?"), but thats about it, his work ethic stinks, personally don't think he links up play well enough, will be hugely overpriced again and just isn't worth the risk for me. Then again if Kenny and Commolli think he will do the job, I'll leave them to it.

Wouldn't be my 1st choice either but at this stage all I want is someone who can score goals.

      Wonder how much he'd cost?

Consider the price Villa bought him for, then take in to account hes basically one of their only capable goal scorers, on top of being one of their only remaining salable assets (Barring maybe Agbonlahor).. I dread to think. They would fleece us to sh*te.

It's hard to guess how much he would cost. Somewhere between £15 and £20M I would think.

Would prefer us to be going for someone different and hope these stories aren't true, very boring player in my opinion and doesn't really add much to the team other than his goals. Yes I know we need goals but there must be 1000's of better options than Darren Bent.
