He is a selfish b***ard who only looks after his goalscoring record. He would rather process his balls through a mincing machine, than to pass the ball to a team-mate. When he was not starting regularly at Tottenham, he has created all sorts of problems in the dressing room. He is doing the same sh*te at Aston Villa now, because he wants out after only 12 months. He is a cancer, and we should stay far away from him.

This would worry me if true also.. but i don't know what happened.

Most top goal scorers have a selfish streak which is why they keep getting goals.

I don't know that, but neither do you.

Each player comes with their own merit and whether you are in favour of signing Bent or not, his record isn't something to dismiss just because you don't like how he plays.

You can have an opinion on the matter, but jamming it down people's throats because they disagree isn't quite necessary.

Referring to his goals scored as an externality of the system a team is using is not a reason to say he will fail here. Regardless of what team you are, and whatever style you play, you will need someone there to stick the ball in the net.

Right now we don't have one. We potentially could in Andy, but right now it's not working. I would prefer to let him develop in to the role than sign Bent for 20m or so but if he comes in and scores goals and provides an outlet for our midfield to finish the chances they're creating, what is so wrong with that?

His record speaks for itself. To chastise a striker for scoring goals is as ridiculous as thinking your opinion actually holds weight over a fellow fan or that of an employee of the club who is paid and trained to do the job.

ain't ramming it down anyone's throat anymore than say u are saying he would be a good signing. Only argument i see for him is people saying he scores bags of goals.  That doesn't tell the whole story.  He was a peno specialist at charlton and over half his goals in his best season with charlton were from penos eight actually.  At both sunderland and charlton both attacks were built around bent.at spurs contrary to what the stats say he did fail he scored goals against weaker opposition because harry didn't trust him in the big games.  His goals return is really skewed by this.
The argument about not knowing more than Liverpool employees is really really weak if that is the case why have a transfer board at all. Goals records on there own aren't enough to be honest
Keane outscored bent knew he would fail though

Major problem I have here is wages and fee demands. If we're going to pay ~20m for a striker, SURELY there are other options out there.

No one is. Everyone, even people who are in favour of signing him are saying they have reservations because of price.

Your reading what you want to read.

Your argument, if i can find one within that mess of a post, is that he scores goals as every club but still isn't a good option because you think so.

Do you think Keane was given enough time on the pitch? also do you think he would have failed under Kenny?

Sorry to change subject from Bent just wondering.. how old was Aldridge when we signed him 28/29?

Keane was never good enough and why i despaired when we signed him. Said so here knew he would fail got slated for saying it. Gave my reasons like i am here and people had a serious hop a bit like crouch is doing here because it is not what he wants to hear.

surely we are all only debating, everyone has different opinion and it is only opinion right or wrong. For all we know there is no interest and it's just lazy journalism unsettling Bent because everybody knows we need a scorer. I hope we are in the process of a bigger fish than Bent much bigger the high scoring equivalent of Suarez.

Considering that we have spent £78 million on Carroll, Downing, Henderson and Adam, I won't be surprised if we actually have a serious interest in Darren Bent. Our scouting department and Comolli obviously have a high opinion on domestic players, and that part is really worrying me.

Well the final thing i'll say on Darren Bent debate. It reminds me of a few seasons ago when i was managing a local pub team i had two first choice forwards Totti and Tommo. Totti was creative could also score but just like to make things happen, was all over the pitch no too disimilar to Suarez and Tommo was lazy a bit like Inzaghi hung around waiting upfront for a tap in it didnt affect the balance of my tactics because we played well as a unit of ten and to be honest at the end of the game when he had scored nobody really remembered the lack of effort on his part. He would argue it takes effort to see the space lazy defenders were leaving and find himself there for the final pass. We won 9 drew 1 before i retired for to focus on my band.. just saying  ;D

Sorry if I'm wrong here Corbally,
But it seems to me your argument should be directed at HCS.
Most of us seem to agree that we want quality signings regardless of their origin.
Although I like the idea Bent is capable of taking the penalties when needed.
