Liverpool have joined Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille in the hunt for Sunderland midfielder Stephane Sessegnon, amid reports that the 27-year-old is unsettled in the North East.
Sessegnon has enjoyed an excellent few weeks under new manager Martin O'Neill, after only showing flashes of his potential to the Black Cats faithful following his £7 million move from PSG a year ago.
However, despite appearing more settled on the field, news this week suggests that he's struggling to convince his wife and five children to join him in England, prompting Marseille to lodge an enquiry with his agent.
PSG would also be keen on re-signing Sessegnon, but Sunderland's Premier League rivals Liverpool have now emerged as a more likely candidate, and are willing to put together an attractive package that would allow the player to be reunited with his family while continuing to play in England.
The Reds are prepared to boost Sessegnon's weekly wage, and also find the family a house and high quality schooling in nearby Cheshire, meaning a perfect compromise to the issues that have dogged his time with Sunderland so far.
However, the main sticking point to the deal would be a fee, as Liverpool are only prepared to pay around £8 million for the 27-year-old, while the Black Cats value him at closer to £15 million.
Sunderland boss O'Neill is expected to meet with the player and his agent this week, in a bid to try and iron the off field issues, as Sessegnon's children make the trip to the North East for a trial living period.
