I'd say we probably won't see a good performance, or a goal or two, out of him until he has a rest. Yes he loves to dominate the game, but if you're physically not up to it then you can't do it.

Rafa had every intention of resting him but McLaren had other ideas. He shouldn't have been needed against Portsmouth but he was & so didn't get a chance to rest then, and he played against Porto too. He hasn't had a proper rest since having to play with an injection for England, if we carry on pushing him too far we could end up doing him some serious damage.

I have first hand experience, as I'm currently injured with a fractured Metatarsal, and I really wish I was playing, and will want to play every game when I'm fit. :'(

I agree that its early days and there is a long way to go in the season and we should easily be able to beat Birmingham without Gerrard.

Imagine though, having a poor result and not playing our best player? Rafa would get blasted for it. Just a week ago people were saying we should of had our best players out against portsmouth from the start of the match? If Gerrard is fit then i'd play him and maybe sub him when job is done and dusted in 2nd half

When exactly was that then? The week he had off when we were up against Sunderland & Derby? That is not a long enough rest, he has played on an injury for four games running now (two for us, two for England) and it is showing. If we carry on playing him like this we WILL ruin his career.

I have gone for a 3-1 against old spud eads lot even though Birmingham can be a bit stubborn in giving in for the inevitable defeat, the swines! what i mean is they can and have been hard to break down at Anfield so i hope we have an early goal to get off to a flyer. Hyppia,Gerrard,Torres to score, assuming no one else does there meta whatsit in overnight!
