Anyone else find it 'interesting' for the last few summers United have been linked with a superstar and made out like they've tried everything to get them, think Sneijder last couple and RVP/Moura this year, but not really actually seemed to be in the running?

I'm convinced it's a ploy to keep their fans onside by pretending the money is there for big name players when in reality it isn't.

I mean they leak to the press, bid way below the asking price, get turned down because the player signs a new contracts and it's "Ohwell we gave it a good go and sometimes it's hard to sign a superstar" and it keeps their fans from asking questions about why in recent years they've signed a Portuguese tramp and paid loads in interest!

El Hadji Diouf joins Leeds United on non-contract terms

Leeds United have signed forward El Hadji Diouf on non-contract terms, less than 18 months after manager Neil Warnock compared him to a "sewer rat".

The Senegal frontman, 31, joined in time to be on the bench in Saturday's League Cup tie with Shrewsbury.

In January 2011, then-QPR boss Warnock was furious with Blackburn's Diouf for allegedly abusing Jamie Mackie when the forward was down with a broken leg.

Diouf left Doncaster in the summer following their relegation. He has also played for Liverpool, Bolton, Sunderland, Blackburn and Rangers.
