The Anfield cat, renamed Shankly, is currently with a foster family The grey and white tabby renamed Shankly, which interrupted a game against Tottenham Hotspur last week, is now under the care of an animal centre.Spoof Twitter accounts were set up claiming to be "The Anfield Cat" following the match.
Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre in Formby, Merseyside, said the cat was currently with a foster family.
A spokesperson for the centre said: "Shankly will remain in our care for a number of weeks as he recuperates after his life on the streets.
"He will be vaccinated and neutered as this is something any responsible pet owner should do and he will be micro chipped to Freshfields.
"Shankly will be up for rehoming and any potential adoptee will be asked to go through the same adoption process as with any of our other cats."
The cat walked on to the pitch 11 minutes into the game on 6 February before quickly being scooped up by a steward.
Anyone interested in adopting Shankly should call the centre in three weeks.
The spokesperson said the centre is unable to take reservations for Shankly but donations towards his care and those of the other animals at the rescue are welcomed.
