Wonder Goals

These days all I seem to do during a match is wonder if we'll score.

Rob de Wit scores

Most probably won't think that's a wonder goal, but it's such a special one, by such a special player. The player that you all should have known, but probably don't. Rob de Wit. A Dutch Ajax player, a left winger,  who should've become one of the best the Dutch ever had.

Rob de Wit had just turned 21 when he joined Ajax from Utrecht in 1984. He was brilliant in a team with players like Van Basten, Rijkaard and Koeman, managed by Cruijff. That first year at Ajax he got his first call up for the Dutch national team. And he really started to show his quality, becoming important for the national team too, of which that goal is proof. It was a very important goal against Hungary in the qualification run for the World Cup in 1986. They didn't qualify however, but Rob de Wit had it all as a player. Then that summer of 1986 during a vacation Rob de Wit experienced a haemorrhage at the age of 22, and would never play again.

2 years later the Dutch national team won the European Championships in 1988, a team he should and would have been part of. It's so sad to think what could have been.

Well it was wonderful at the time .

That Hassli goal is unreal.    I realize it is 'only MLS', but his goal is of world-class brilliance. And against a solid goalkeeper in Keller too. Wow.

The ball doesn't swerve until late on and that's what seems to catch the keeper out.

surely one of those will take goal of the year. i hope coates gets the recognition he deserves for his. to be honest thinking about it his should be goal of the year, he is a centre back! has a defender scored a better one? the one that comes to my mind is ryan taylor free kick v everton which was quite spectacular though i could be remembering a bit exaggerated.. crouch, cisse, suarez, mata should always score great goals, for a young cb like coates it should be handed to him. 

try to imagine if phil jones did it... they would be calling it the "Decades Greatest" and hailing him as a "100m Prince"

It's a good goal but one of those that players try all the time. Sometimes they go in, sometimes they don't. There have been far better goals in that time period but people have short memories.

Sadly to say, people will only vote the "recent" goals if you know what I mean.

My friend posted something about that on his facebook.

I can only think he won it because he plays for Manchester United as there are so many United fans out there ..
