Engineering work Warrington - Crewe means no direct trains from LIME STREET after 08.00 hrs, then have to travel  to CHESTER, CREWE or Manchester for EUSTON trains!

"It is unfortunate that the work coincides with the FA Cup final, but there is no possibility of us postponing the work," a Network Rail spokesman said. "This has been 18 months in the planning and when scheduling such work we would have had no idea of the date and times of such games and who would be playing in it."

      Really.

Funny that, because the FA Cup Final is played on either the first or second weekend in May.

So here's a better idea - train nobheads - why didn't you plan it after the footie season finished.

      Bellends.

Liverpool FC fans' travel headache over FA Cup final railway closure

      by John Siddle, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL FC fans heading to the FA Cup final at Wembley face a transport headache after it emerged hardly any London-bound trains will depart from the city that day.Virgin Trains cancelled the majority of its May 5 Lime Street to Euston services because of scheduled engineering work in Edge Hill and between Crewe and Warrington.

Only three services will run from Liverpool, each departing before 8am. Kick-off is 5.15pm.It means the thousands of fans heading south will have to make their way to Crewe on replacement buses to catch a London-bound train.A Virgin Trains spokesman said fans could also get to London on trains leaving from Chester and Manchester. He said: 'This is long-standing work planned by Network Rail on the May Day bank holiday weekend.

There are still ways of getting to London, for example through Chester or Manchester.'Details of the engineering work has been published on the National Rail Enquiries website.'Gallery: Liverpool v Everton at WembleyDirect London services from Warrington Bank Quay have also been scrapped because of the maintenance work which will continue the day after the cup final.
And Reds' fans anticipating celebrating cup final success in the capital face travel chaos on Sunday, May 6.Virgin warned a 'restrictive' service will be in place on trains leaving Euston because of engineering work in Milton Keynes.Liverpool-bound services will instead depart from Rugby - 100 miles away - with passengers advised to travel on the East Coast line to Doncaster, Sheffield or York before switching to a cross-Pennine train. Another five-hour option would involve five trains and changes at Leicester, Nuneaton, Crewe and Chester.

Heard this on the radio before. Only trains from manc town after 8am on the day and probably the worst bit of news is that if the game goes to extra time there will be NO trains to get back. Ridiculous.

      Waste of time.

It's railtrack that do the engineering work so the train operators have no choice.
