Can someone please intelligently explain the hatred for the man? And someone who didn't slate him before a kick of the ball in the 2010-2011 season please.
I never expected him to succeed at Liverpool, nor did I expect him to fail as abysmally as he did, prior to his appointment I believed with him in charge we'd likely remain a 4th placed team nothing more, nothing less. However I was willing to accept him, give him a chance as I do to all that come to this great club, be it players or managers.
But then it started, the negative formations, defensive mindset and football bearing too great a resemblence to that of Stoke City. From then it was clear, under Roy, Liverpool were playing to avoid defeat, and so our league results followed in the path of many relegation threatened teams Roy had previously managed.
The horrific press conferences followed, Roy's obvious lack of player management was evident in his uninsparitional media interviews. [see Roy quotes earlier in this thread]. Refusal to defend underperforming players is simply unacceptable from a manager and yet Roy continued to distance himself from underperforming players, instead insisting that his "tried and true" methods would see us through.
Roy not only took us down relegation path but made us the laughing stock of the footballing nation. And that my friend, is why Roy Hodgson will always be remembered as one of the worst Liverpool managers ever.
