Its funny because in Netherlands, his name is written as Kuijt. And they pronounce Kait. The 'ij' gives a 'y' sound. Same with van Dijk. Its pronounced as Daik. But in English, written as Duyk.

Same with Cruijff. His name is pronounced Kreiff (cry-ff). And written as Cruyff.

I'm Dutch myself, and you're a bit off. Dijk is indeed pronounced as Daik, but Kuijt isn't pronounced as Kait, because Kuijt has the u, which Dijk hasn't. The uij in Kuijt is pronounced the same as in Cruijff(which isnt pronounced as Kreiff either). Basically this is what his name sounds like in Dutch http://bit.ly/Miy1oH (click on the listen thing on the bottom right)

I don't think the Dutch ui sound exists in English language. Can't think of any examples right now anyway.

I get what you mean about Kuyt. More like Cow-t. Something close to it. I got that mixed up.  xxxxx:action-smiley-065:

But Cruijff? Listen to this. Thats how I thought they pronounce. - Listen

Uhmm, that uij in there is pronounced the same as the Kuijt I posted,  I don't hear a difference. Basically uij is always pronounced as ui in Dutch. Doesn't matter if it's in Kuijt or Cruijff or whatever, it's the same.

Easy there lad. I was just kidding around how much effort you have been putting to make everyone understand the Dutch pronounciation(and hence the smiley). Apologies if you found it offensive.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgoge rychwyrndrobwllllantysil iogogogoch I honestly copied and pasted it and even the paste broke it up into sections disbelieving it was a word.
