Scouting at the Euros - Realistic Targets Only
      Jun 10, 2012 10:44:30 am
Perfect timing this tournamnent with Rodgers now in the hot seat and whilst Rodgers will have a few ideas in terms of players he'd like to bring in I've got no doubt that he is scouring this tournament for a gem or two who might fint into his new LFC program. It's clear that we will struggle to compete with the likes of City, united and Chelsea in terms of the top transfer targets at the moment so this thread is just for players that jump out at this tournament. Not the usual household names, there's no point drooling over a player like Llorente because he is SADLY not in our league for the time being.

A player who really caught my eye on day one was Vaclav Pilar (LM) for the Czech Republic. As a team they were shi...te but he really caught the eye, he was quick, happy to run at players and grabbed a good goal with a an intelligent run and finish. Can't say i've heard of the lad before and I don't even know who he plays for but will be keeping an eye out for the lad in their next game.

A word of caution.remember the world cup when Houllier was our manager 2 players caught his eye and they turned out crap.In fact one of them could of won a gold medal at the Olympics for spitting.

I think I will forever rue the decision to opt for that horrible little fuxxer ahead of the excellent Nicholas Anelka. Anelka could have been a Liverpool player 10 years.

I think the trick is to do your homework on the player above and beyond what you see at the tournament. Also, I would argue that the Euros are a much better proving ground than the World Cup given that the quality on show is more dense with very few (what you would call) minnows and the style of football is (as you would excpect) European.

This is a common misconception. Diouf and Diao were already linked in the newspapers and the deals were sealed before the World cup started. Well I know Diaos' definitely was, because I remember hearing about it on BBC1 on the day of the France vs Senegal game, few hours before it started.

Maybe it was a bad thing. As Diouf had a great world cup, his price would have gone up and if we did not sign him before it, it might have put Houllier off  ;D

I was particularly impressed by Russia's Roman Shirokov.

Maybe a tad too old (at 30) to be considered a potential signing but he seems to have the full-house when it comes to midfield play - a 'holding' midfielder who can score goals, defend and play centre half (alongside Skrtel  ;)) if needs be.

I know its not feasable now, but always been a fan of Zhirkov, never got a real crack at Chelsea, can play LW and LB. Fast, determined and technically good. Shame, he wouldnt move away from Russia earning high wages!

What about Anyukov, the Russian right back?

I liked that Russian RB, starts with a P, can't make an attempt at spelling it! Think Madrid are interested in him.

      Dzagoev!!

Isn't Christian Eriksen supposed to be one of the stars? Hope to see more of him soon. Not easy to make a stamp against Netherlands.

Maggio, looks beastly at right back, could allow for Johnson to play a more attacking position in the side.

Jetro Willems, he turned 18 in March.  Looks like a great prospect.

I can still recall in the media Diao saying to Houllier please sign me boss, now as I remember it that was after the world cup.Regarding Diouf,a fee might have been agreed but he had not signed before the world cup. I agree with you regarding Diouf having a good world cup,it was just a pity he never showed the same commitment to L.F.C..
