Barcelona winger in line for Liverpool loan move

Liverpool are set to land Barcelona winger Cristian Tello on loan for the rest of the season, according to reports in Spain.

Brendan Rodgers' bid to take Liverpool back to the Champions League has suffered in the last week following back-to-back defeats at Manchester City and Chelsea and the accumulation of several injuries to first-team players.

Following the 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge, Rodgers expressed his desire to bring in reinforcements in January and Radio Marca claim Tello will be the first new arrival at Anfield next month.

The 22-year-old, rated at £10.5m, has managed just two league starts for Barca this season and admitted last month that he would consider leaving the Nou Camp if his first-team prospects did not improve.

Yeah we were being a lot, so maybe there was something in it. I don't think he signed a contract but he told marca that he want to stay at barca and fight for his place. Then the rumours calmed down . But here we go again.

Think Tello is the new villa/silva for us, every window he will be linked with us and we all, me including will start dreaming then poof nothing

And that would mean Sterling would barely get a look in.  And I think he's been brilliant the last few matches.

There's this thing called squad depth, you may not have heard of it before since we barely have any! Sterling should only be a squad player atm but again he's having to play because of a lack of choices.

This outlook is completely wrong. We're not going to challenge for anything with this attitude. If Sterling is good enough then he'll earn his place in the starting team and his time by playing well - not by being the only one available. Our squad is devastatingly thin and is costing us points both directly and indirectly therefore we need to bring in depth.

If we bring in Tello and Sterling loses his place so be it.

That is the whole idea. Buy player who are better than the ones you have to make the squad stronger.

Mate I disagree.  I think the form he was in at Spurs and City would be enough to get him into the starting XI of almost any team in the league.  He outshone Suarez himself at Spurs.  Sterling is not someone we play "because of lack of choices."  Brad Smith was someone we played because of lack of choices.

As for depth, it's not on the wing where we are lacking in squad depth.  We have Sterling there, Suarez plays on the wing easily, Coutinho can play on the wing, Sturridge can play on the wing, then you've got Ibe in a pinch.

It's midfield where we need improvements.  I'm all for bringing in a new attacking player.  With an attacking three of Suarez, Sturridge + new player, with Coutinho slipping to #10, where he's best.  That would mean Sterling could come off the bench to run them ragged.

But two new attacking players?  Look if we've got the funds then fine, but it's painfully clear from yesterday (and the whole season) that where we need improvement ASAP is in midfield.  Lucas, Henderson, Allen, Gerrard, they all need improving upon.  If we do that and have money left over for a second new attacker, great, but I don't understand why it's a priority.

As for Tello, just a genuine question, do we really need him IF we did end up signing Salah? I mean he wants first team prospect I don't think he will get that if we ended up Mohammad Salah. I think a midfielder is a priority and not forwards really, I don't think we have been struggling with goals, we've been struggling mostly in the center of the park



 

Salah is better than Tello, but for a loan deal I'd have him.

We need him. Big 2nd half of season for us.  Br seems to think alberto, aspas and moses not able tp contribute at the level we need for a top 4 objective.

We have been linked with him quite a few times yes. Think he signed a new contract with Barca last year, but I'm not sure.

He has to be better than the dross we bought in the summer , F***ing awful summer transfers and a big chunk of change for them as well . F**k them on the scrapheap Rodgers and start again before we drop any more points .
