      Hillsborough Justice Campaign monument appeal
      Jun 28, 2012 10:32:46 am
The Spirit of Shankly Liverpool supporters union has been contacted by the Hillsborough Justice Campaign (HJC) with a request to our members.

They are asking for donations towards a bronze monument that has been commissioned by them. A maquette of the monument is available for all supporters to see  upstairs in the HJC Shop (opposite the Albert pub).

The HJC want the monument to be a permanent memorial in the city from the people of Liverpool and beyond.

Once the monument is finished it is hoped it will be placed in a central location.

The cost of the memorial is £152,000 plus VAT.  The HJC has paid £36,000 to date as part of their commitment to the project.

If you are able to donate can you please go to the HJC pay pal account; Justice_4_96@yahoo.co.uk

Can you please state that your donation is for the monument.

Thank you for your continued support.

There's a video on the Echo website that I can't put up so feel free to follow the link at the bottom.

New Hillsborough memorial created by Liverpool sculptor Tom Murphy is revealed

A MONUMENT crafted to remember those killed in the Hillsborough disaster was unveiled today.

The huge circular structure has been commissioned to represent the football tragedy in Sheffield where 96 Liverpool fans were killed.

Currently made of clay, the design will soon be sent to a foundry where it will be cast in bronze.

The eight foot wide and seven foot tall monument took over six months to create and is the work of city sculptor Tom Murphy.

The monument will cost £152,000, and so far the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, who are behind the project, have contributed £37,000.

Today, the group said they would welcome donations to help reach their target and make the public memorial a reality.

The HJC has entered into early discussions with the council over where it will be sited, with many keen to see it located in the city centre.

The names of the 96 Reds supporters who died on the Leppings Lane terraces in 1989 will feature on two plaques fixed to the outside.

And the words ‘Hillsborough Disaster – we will remember them’ will run around the perimeter.

The creation is also designed to act like a memory box, with a fixed hole to allow relatives of those who died 23 years ago to put sentimental mementoes – like a scarf, letter or poem – inside the monument.

They will remain inside as a lasting legacy to those lost in the Sheffield tragedy, Mr Murphy said.

Hillsborough Justice Campaign Time-Capsule Memorial Project

The Hillsborough Justice Campaign has recently commissioned Tom Murphy to create a permanent memorial to all the victims of Hillsborough to be strategically placed in an appropriate location in the city centre. This sculpture will be a permanent monument to all the victims of the disaster from the campaign on behalf of bereaved families, survivors and supporters of the fight for Justice.

The memorial will stand 8 foot by 8 foot, will be drum shaped, depicting images on its surface as well as the names of the victims. The structure has a large compartment that will work as a time capsule, this will then be sealed. The Campaign is currently in negotiations with the City Council to find an appropriate location.

This wonderful memorial is from the fans, to the fans, in the City of Liverpool.

It is a bronze memorial sculpture, and the first panel is currently approaching completion. Attached are images of the prototype of the sculpture, this is currently resident in the Campaign shop at 178 Walton Breck Road, it really is a wonderful piece, if anybody would like to call in to see.

Now, for the difficult part, the memorial is going to take quite a considerable sum to complete. Fundraising has long been a task of the campaign and without the support the countless thousands worldwide, we would never be in the position we are now.

This is the largest project we have undertaken, a permanent reminder to visitors of the city of the victims of Hillsborough, a memorial that will be part of the landscape of this historic city.

If anybody can and is willing to help with this project, please contact Gerry McIver at the HJC shop or on 0151 260 5262 (10am till 2pm), please leave a message if nobody else is available.

Even the smallest donation would be most welcome to (Hillsborough Justice Campaign) by Paypal to- Justice_4_96@yahoo.co.uk or directly to the Shop mark it for the Memorial fund.

Everybody at the HJC would like, once again, to thank you for your continued support for the fight for Justice for the Victims of Hillsborough.

      Justice for all.

This should be paid for by the government as soon as possible, out of shame I know but paid for so it can be quickly established.
