Beth Tweddle is still 1st on Bars, 7th on Floor (Top 8 make Final). Tunney 12th & Whelan 14th in AA (Top 24 make Final) #gymnastics

Good day for the girls, I think the team go through as well.  Following on from the men's excellent day yesterday!

I'm sure I read somewhere that a fair few of GB's gymnasts are from the same Liverpool club.  I wonder if that has been inspired by Beth?  I'd be made up if she could win a medal in these games, she's a true star in my mind!

Men's team final is so tense!

UK v Ukraine for third with Ukraine something like 0.2 ahead going into the last event.

The last event has GB on the floor, Ukraine on the rings.

So tense!  It was terrible when the crowd groaned, the cameras weren't showing the high bar, but you just knew something awful had happened.  Apart from that one slip, GB have done so well so far.

Japan moved up to silver after their enquiry was accepted and the last vault re-scored.  GB drop to bronze.  Great result, but it feels disappointing.  Gutted and chuffed for the lads.

I think that might have been rhythmic gymnastics?  I think the men's team has been at a good standard for a while now, never Olympic medal standard before though!

Sour grapes moment, that was a sh*t dismount, just because he landed on his feet he gets a score, he fell off the bloody horse! :D

No, one of the Japanese gymnasts made a mess of his dismount from the pommel horse and received a low score which dropped the Japanese team into fourth.  They appealed and the judges were then able to look at video footage of the routine, and they adjusted his mark upwards by 0.5 of a point which was just enough to left them back into silver.  It was very tight between second and fourth places!

      Ladies team competition on now.

Great reception for Team Pool (& Imogen Cairns), with extra noise for Beth Tweddle. Girls all looking nice & relaxed.

USA win the gold with a massive score.  Russia get silver with Romania getting bronze.

China finished 4th, Canada 5th with GB just behind in 6th.  Italy and Japan finish 7th and 8th.

GB started badly with a fall of the beam, but finished strongly.  Beth Tweddle put in very strong performance with a very difficult routine on the asymetric bars scoring 15.883.

The US girls were outstanding though!

Argh!  What a shame, both Purvis and Thomas were doing really well, until Thomas couldn't land his vault and Purvis has just fallen off the parallel bars.  Gutted for them.

Fantastic routines by Kristian Thomas on the high bar and Dan Purvis on the floor to finish their competitions.  They really stuck at it.  Well done lads!

A dramatic end to the competition, Uchimura of Japan took the gold comfortably, but the silver medal position went first to Leyva of the USA after a brilliant final round on the high bar.  He was then overtaken by Nguyen of Germany after the score for his final floor routine catapulted him up to second.  Feel for the Ukranian lad who came fourth again after the team's fourth place.

Kristian Thomas did well to finish in 7th place on 89.406 points just .001 behind 6th place!  They haven't shown Dan Purvis's position but I don't think he was very far behind.

What a routine by Beth Tweddle in the uneven bars!  Such a shame about stepping backwards in her dismount.

Beth in silver at the moment with 15.916.

Down to bronze with two to go.  The russian gymnast scores over 16!  One down, scores under 15.  Gabrielle Douglas of USA up last.  Big error in her routine, has Beth got bronze?

YESSSS!!!!  Gabby Douglas scores 14.9!  Beth gets bronze!!

I watched that. Thought the Chinese was going to get it until he popped up in the end to take it in brilliant style. Really happy for you. I think it's important Brazil gains some momentum ahead of Rio in 4 years time.
