We played badly, and got a result. Looks like our fate is turning!

Well good result which I'm happy with, thought for 60mins we were really poor, thankfully the introduction of Lucas showed a couple of things, just how much we'd missed him last season and that he might not take as long recovering as I'd feared. Was right up there with our best players. Thought Borini's movement was very decent and Sterling's work-rate was exceptional despite not much end product to what he was trying. Gerrard and Enrique had really poor games, think Enrique is possibly trying too hard to impress without being fit, or at least I'm hoping that because I've been really disappointed in him for all the pre-season and now this.

Henderson at least tried a few offensive passes one of which Gerrard should and probably would in a couple of weeks of latched on to and pleased for Downing to get a goal but I don't personally believe it will make much difference because before it and after it he was pretty damn poor too. Jones did pretty decent between the sticks too, Skrtel and Carra showing again they're a little shakey when playing together and in truth if we'd of come away 3-1 down it would be hard to argue with on the balance of chances.

Without doubt though we need seriously help in the transfer market in the creative department and I sincerely hope they come in the next couple of weeks.

Agree...if only FSG would open up their wallets and bring in Cavani, Messi, Ronaldo and Thiago Silva we would have it made.

Oh and don't forget Aguero and Modric too.

       :tosser:

Mate, strawman comments like that don't help anything.

Basically what you're saying is that there is no one who can improve us unless they are Cavani, Messi, Ronaldo, etc.

I disagree.  I'm relatively certain that there are gettable players who would be willing to come to Liverpool for not exorbitant fees on not exorbitant wages that would massively improve us and be a huge step up on some of our starting XI.

The minimum excepted is for FSG to keep our best players. If it doesn't concern you that LFC are yet to contact Agger regarding a new contract then you are simply deluding yourself about FSG.

It wasn't a good performance by any means but at the end of the day the result matters more than the performance and it's the wins that will give the team confidence and help them push onto better performances.

JD may be on to something.

Last year downing does not score and we lose matches while playing some beautiful footy at times (losing pretty)

Fast forwad downing has our first goal of the season, we play ugly but still win  (winning ugly)

Karmic interference in the atmosphere perhaps.

Its obvious Borini's a "channel runner".. Probably gagging for a "thru ball specialist" (in addition to an on-form Gerrard).

Played sh*te, got the result opposed to most games last season when we played "Arite" and lost... ;D..

1st competitive game and we got the win.. I'm Larry meself.. ;D..

Downing! 1 game, 1 goal. At this rate he is gonna finish the season with 40+ goals. I knew he would come good!

      ...

Never watched the match, happy we won. Those early games are never of much enjoyment, what really matters is getting through.

You must not read many of corbally's posts. We've been linked to plenty of reasonable players but they are never good enough for him, always something wrong with them and it always comes down to the fact that the owners won't provide the money we need to buy the guys the manager REALLY wants.

Going to be a massive job for Brendan.  Needs to sort the earwax out first with the players - as they clearly didn't understand his focus on keeping the ball.

Going to need more than Fabio Borini to solve our problems.  We should be fighting tooth and nail to keep Agger and Carroll - not touting them around as part of some ludicrous cost-cutting strategy.

More nervous about the season ahead than I was at ten to seven tonight.

For all of the 15/20 minutes he was on Lucas definitely shored up that midfield and won a couple of good, strong tackles in there. It's really good to have him back.
It's a shame about Joe Cole's injury, he needs a sustained run in the team if we have any hope of seeing him at his best but on the positive side Sterling had a couple of good runs out wide, just needs to bulk up a bit and we could have a gem on our hands.

      Still in transition.
It'll come if the players listen, and if they don't then F**k them off and get players in who WILL listen.
It's going to take at least a couple of months before we start to gel and play the way BR wants us to.

Certainly mate, and most importantly they have to be players the manager wants.

But the fact is the players currently being 'touted' are not on certain peoples 'Football Manager 2012' wish lists. So they're shot down before they've even walked through the bleedin' door. Be that because of their nationality, what club they come from or the fact they don't have a fancy enough sounding name. Theres uproar around players we are being linked with in the transfer forum and uproar by the same people because we're not spending any money. You can't win during silly season.

Im not arsed who comes in, as long as they're players BR wants. You don't necessarily need to chuck millions & millions at marque signings to achieve success, you just need players who can adapt to the system the manager wants to implement, Swansea & Newcastle showed that last year.

Fully expect us to be in much better shape come the first game of the season. This isn't a quick fix, time we all realised that.

Imagine thirty or so displays like that one in the league? Would we still be mewling?
