Week 3 on the world’s most exciting journey through time. Well not exactly. Here is the current League Table as at 3rd September. There have been some odd results this week as teams struggle to settle down. I didn’t have Arsenal down for a win for one, nor did I expect Aston Villa to get a point at Sid James Place.

Reading didn’t play, so no sarky comments to be made about them and Sunderland took a point away to the second in the league, so well done us.

It may well be like this for the rest of the season now, with small movements rather than great leaps. Interesting times. The win against Wigan, was slightly fortunate, but it didn’t stop us sliding one place further down the table. Next week might be even gloomier with our match against Man City not going to be an easy one.
Liverpool just squeaked by Norwich with 5 lucky goals and have leaped 4 places up the table to 14th. Wolfy can relax a little now as they are outside the relegation zone. At least temporarily.
Reading looked good (to me anyway) and had the better of the draw against Newcastle. One of the goals scored against them, was goal of the week and you can’t legislate against that. Still, they move up a place and (fanfare of trumpets) are off the bottom. Thank goodness for QPR.

Well, well, well.

I don’t think we could have been more” well beaten” than we were on Saturday. I have a view that the word professional is completely wrongly applied to footballers. To me professional implies a quality or standard of conduct that is not evident in footballers. You want, for example, a surgeon to apply professional standards in his work. You don’t want the word professional to merely mean that he is being paid. You expect excellence – professionalism.

Hereafter, footballers should be described as either amateur or paid. Not professional. Cuellar was paid to play on Saturday, he wasn’t paid to scythe someone down, totally needlessly and totally amateurishly, just outside his own box. The case for the prosecution rests.

Bad luck Reading, but you can’t keep squandering leads. You should have had at least 4 more points so far this season. If you had you would have been in mid table comfort. Still, some of the signs are good.

Wolfy, has Rogers gone on a non-charm offensive? He seems hell bent on upsetting all his players, one by one. Stoke at home and only a draw, not good.

Looking at the proper league table, (see new link to it in our new {recently stolen from Royals Rendezvous} section) one win would move you a decent way towards temporary safety at least. 17th is very much attainable.

Sunderland are probably happy, at the end of the day, with the point. The only major downside of this is that Liverpool have overtaken us in the table. Woe, woe and thrice woe. O’Neill out!!

Well, what a disappointing weekend for Sunderland. 0-1 at home to Villa. Most worryingly is our league position. Come on Mr. O’Neill get your finger out and get us up to 6th.

Reading threw away 2 good points away at QPR. Getting a lead seems easy enough for them, but holding it is beyond them, Still 1 point is way better than 0 points.

Liverpool v Newcastle was a game adorned by 2 great goals. Liverpool’s goal was the better of the two because un like the Liverpool defence, the Newcastle defence didn’t just stand back and admire what was happening. BR has to sort that out and when he does things will be much better. A centre forward would help too.

A day early, here is this week’s update. If I haven’t miscalculated, any result in tonights game can’t alter the league table, so today or tomorrow, it’s the same.

What a weekend for results for the 3 main teams followed by people in this competition.

Liverpool just squeaked by Norwich by the odd goal or 5 and have raced up to the dizzy heights of 7th.

Reading provided double delight with a fabulous win over our very near North East neighbours. Not only a valuable 3 points but a brief escape from the relegation zone. Reading are now well and truly back in the mix, with a great chance of survival.

Sunderland hung on grimly for a lovely 3-2 defeat of Wigan. A strong away win against another relegation threatened team, helps not only us, but Reading as well, payback for Readings gift of a defeat of Newcastle. We are now in mid table and beginning to look like a proper mid table team. Heady days. Now we only have to finish above Liverpool to shut Wolfy up. Do prayers actually work, anyone know?
