This. I hope, at least. Would love to see Allen start but I'd rather he played 20 minutes and was fully fit for the next few games.

I'll hold off making a prediction but blimey I'm excited for this now.

I think Shelvey has done enough during pre season to deserve a start.

Yea I don't see Allen starting especially as its away from home so I reckon Shelvey will play alongside Lucas again...(just hope he doesn't let the red mist come down when he's tackling now we know Dowd's in charge)...last thing we need is to be down to 10 men first game of the season..I'm only saying that as I thought Ibrimavic's red card for Chelsea yesterday , to me , was a bit harsh, so maybe a new even tougher clampdown from the ref's is what we'll see this year?and , we know Shelveys got away with a couple of shady tackles recently...
The Baggie's poster is right in that Clarke will play a different style to the way Hodgson did but its whether they have the metal to stop Luis Suarez because I can see him destroying teams single handedly all season(er..Norwich hat trick springs to mind)..He has pledged his future to this club and he is on fire , hungry and full of confidence...he has a full PL season under his belt now so he knows what to expect....WBA don't have anyone who will be able to stop him on saturday i'm afraid..

Agree with this.  Also, with Allen only just coming into the team this week it would be ideal to give him a bit of time to settle.  I think the starting 11 is pretty much nailed on as:

Perhaps Rodgers will opt for Allen ahead of Jonjo, but I think he will stick with JJ for this one.  Going for a 1-0 win to get the season started off right!!

Getting closer and getting excited, I love the start of a brand new season, everyone's equal (sort of  )

We beat WBA away by 2-0, goals from Charlie Adam (pen) and Andy Carroll last season. So I wouldn't say no to a repeat scoreline

As long as we get a win, don't care of we concede 5! It will be interesting too to see how Steve Clarke fares out as a manger.

I am going out on a limb on this one and say 3-0 with a performance very similar to our last match against Gomel.

I can feel the nightmare of the summer washing away at the mere thought of a game.

Steve Clarke will have them bang up for this, he will want to prove that he has it to be a No.1 and against his old side to boot.. It won't be easy, opening games never are..

I expect that even if any new signings happen to be concluded before this then it will be too late for them to be involved with no training to speak of until Friday as a squad.. The same could count against Allen as he is now away with Wales he will have had little time to train with his new team mates, but I actually feel Brendan will start him.. Get him in, get him to do his job and acclimatised to the shirt before things gets really tough against the likes of Arsenal,City and Utd coming up..

Ha ha, just noticed I put Dempsey in rather than Downing.

Funny isnt it up against Steve Clarke first. I wish that man a fantastic season but hoe his first game as gaffer is a disaster.

WBA will be defensively solid under Steve so we will need to be on top form. But looking at Suarez form at the minute I cant see them keeping us out for 90 minutes
