I've played this game since before slow motion replays existed. The rules are there to be interpreted by refs using common sense.

So a defender makes the mistake of not being aware of a striker and the referee must have "common sense" - "poor guy, he never saw Long coming. He's a sh*t defender so I won't give the penalty out of pity"
