Liverpool vs Manchester City 26th August - KO 16:00 pre-match thread

26th August - kick off 16:00. Sky Sports.

So we head into our first game of Anfield this season in the league looking to bounce back from our opening day defeat at West Brom. And the first visitors are the reigning champions Man City. We go into the game on the back of a win away at Hearts which should carry some momentum into this game. City are also coming into this game off the back of a win, at home to newly promoted Southampton. Both teams will be missing key players, Liverpool have Danny Agger suspended, while Aguero is injured for City. Over the last few years, we have a decent enough record against City, in 2010-2011, we beat them 3-0 at home and lost 3-0 away, and in 2011-2012, drew at home in the league, but lost away. We did, however overcome them on the way to winning the League Cup. We are unbeaten at home to City in the league since 2003, so hopes are high for this one for me anyways.

Joe Allen is likely to making his home debut, and perhaps a run out for Assaidi too.

I back the boys for a hard earned draw. Heart says we ll win, hoping for the best. BR's first league game, we were good against leverkusen at anfield. If players can reproduce that form here, it ll be an interesting contest. Morale ll be poor, lets wait and see whether BR can change the mindset of players.
Would love to see what tactic we ll be using, i don't mind park the bus and counter .

Hope we win. Its early days so anything can happen. It will take a while for teams to attain steady state and a few freak results like us beating Citeh at Anfield is expected.

I would be very happy with a 5-0 humiliation of the champions! But I'd take a hard fought 1-0 cuz I don't want to be too greedy!

I hope Coates starts next to Skrtel, who I'd keep on his right side of the centerback pairing. Also hope Enrique is fit, because I don't think Robinson is up for it already.

I put Carra in instead of Coates because I think Robinson would benefit from a little experience at the side of him, and also Sterling because, well if you get a place in the team based on form, he deserves it the most.

I expect that as usual we will raise our game against the top sides, more than match them on the day and then it all comes down to whether we can put away our chances.

If we get a bit of luck in front of goal I think we will win this 2-0. Carroll will terrorise the Citeh back line, Suarez will rip them apart and Borini will work hard and hopefully finish anything that comes his way.

I think Downing may get a game as wingback.......... don't laugh!

If we win this 2-0 i'll be amazed saint.
Mathew Street will be bouncing after if that happens.

Personally i think we'll get a draw if we're lucky especially without Agger.

I would be a lot more confident if we had Agger, really worried about either Seba or Carra. However am buoyed by the the facts that Aguero won't play and how we have more than matched up with them in recent matches. Honestly think Suarez will take Lescott to the cleaners, we'll just have to hold up defensively.

Am I the only one that can't see Carra starting? At his age, will he really play 90 minutes on Thursday night and then again on Sunday, against the best attacking side in the country.

I'm pretty worried that we could get a proper beating along the likes we got when we faced them under Woy.

If I remember correctly, we played that game with a flat 4-4-2 with Torres & N'Gog up front, both who are number 9's. We had Stevie in CM after he was so used to playing as a 10, and had Agger LB.

That was the day i really realised that 4-4-2 was dead. City had 3 in midfield and ran the show. We made Milner look like a world beater too.
