Sadly just don't see us scoring too many this season, so without Suarez who I presume will be rested for the mancs I think we will dominate but fail to score (can't believe I am saying this) and we will come away with a 0-0 draw :(

Maybe if we get some luck we will get a penalty

Rumors are that Yesil will make his debut. If he is clinical I would like to see him sooner rather than later.

6pm kick off? Jesus Christ! I know some won't like it, due to getting home from work but it gives me less time to have to wait for the game to begin so I am happy. :D

I am fascinated by the way Rodgers approaches the Europa League games. Not sure if Yesil is ready but, as the old saying goes, if your good enough, your old enough and I certainly think Yesil is good enough. Wonder if we will see the lost man, Assiadi? Will find it unbelievable if he doesn't feature in some way.

Let's not kid ourselves. This Swiss team is going to be up for it. I know I say it all the time but it is the price you pay for being apart of Liverpool Football Club. Everyone wants to beat you. With United coming up on Sunday, I expect us to be competitive but with a 'weakened' team. I use 'weakened' lightly as whatever team we put out should be good enough to beat this team. That said, take nothing for granted.

      I'd go with this.

      Reina,
      Kelly,  Agger, Skrtel,  Johnson,
      Shelvey,  Gerrard,  Allen,
      Sterling,  Borini,  Suarez.

Subs: Jones, Enrique, Sahin, Assaidi, Henderson, Downing, Carragher

Looks familiar? Well it should, same as the Saturday game. We need consistency, this will breed familiarity between the players and thus an understanding.

Don't give me the new nut shell, they need resting, they have a big game on Sunday, bollocks IMO. If they can not up their game for Sundays match, then they are a bunch of lazy gits.

      CONSISTENCY all the way.

      PDF on the pitch.

      On July 14 2006, the
      field at the Stade
      de Suisse, Bern,
      Switzerland was
      awarded the FIFA
      2 STAR Football
Turf. The stadium is home to BSC Young
Boys who participate in the Swiss Premier
League. The surface was also used for home
matches for BSC Young Boys for the 2006-
      2007 UEFA Cup season.

This case study will highlight the strategy,
reasoning and approach they took for
switching from grass to football turf. Indeed
by working closely with the Stade de Suisse
this case study will show that Football Turf
is very much an alternative for both football
      and business.

      The Stade de Suisse

Unlike many other stadia, which more often
than not are owned by their respective
teams, the Stade de Suisse actually owns
its football club, BSC Young Boys. As
Stefan Niedermaier, Stade de Suisse’s CEO
says, “We want to be a multi-functional
stadium – in fact we have to be, otherwise,
we are not going to make money – it is as
simple as that.” Based on this statement,
the following highlights the strategy from
concept to reality and installing a FIFA
      RECOMMENDED 2 STAR Football Turf.
In simple terms the strategy for installing a
FIFA RECOMMENDED 2 STAR Football Turf
      was:

      • More Football in the stadium
      • More Flexibility
      • Financial revenue
For the above to be come to reality, the
key problem was the limitations of their
grass pitch and the reasons for the change
to a FIFA RECOMMENDED 2 STAR Football
      Turf were:
      • Natural grass can only host a limited
      number of events
      • Durability is heavily dependent on
      weather
      • Using the stadium for more events
      would lead to more risks
      Working with the Football Team
To achieve a successful transition and to
alleviate any fear or anxiety the players had
regarding the artificial turf surface, the
      players were consulted throughout and
were part of the decision making process.
As Stefen Niedermaier says: “When we
were first looking at installing artificial turf,
we flew the team to Red Bull Salzburg,
where the same artificial turf product
has been installed and certified to FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR. I wanted to be
100 per cent sure that the team, players,
staff and the coach fully supported the
      idea”.

      A successful solution for all
Multiple Use, Image, Sport, costs were all
advantageous factors for installing a FIFA
      RECOMMENDED 2 STAR Football Turf.

      Multiple use

Installing a FIFA RECOMMENDED 2 STAR
Football Turf allowed much more frequent
use of the stadium infrastructure. Thus
sports, business events and concerts could
all take place and more importantly on a
      frequent basis. Therefore more spectators
due to increased frequency of events such
as concerts and business seminars. The
strategic goal of “non traditional football
The strategy of going Football Turf
STade de SuiSSe, BSC Young BoYS
      Switzerland
6 7fans” coming into the football stadium with
the hope that they may come back and see
FSC Young Boys. A good long term strategy
      of increasing the fan base.
      image

Due to the durability of the playing surface
the look and feel was excellent all year
round. An evergreen pitch from the FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR field in the
stadium enhanced the image for spectators
in the stadium, television and photographs.
The stadium also had a further unique
selling point in the Swiss Premier League.

It was the only club to have a FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR Football Turf field.
      Therefore showing initiative and leading
the way for other clubs to watch and
learn. Very much the Stade de Suisse were
      groundbreakers in the development and
seeing the benefits for both the business
      and football side.

      Sport

Due to the durability of the FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR surface the first
team can train and play on the pitch. Also
the youth teams can train and play on the
pitch. This creates a club atmosphere and
      utilises the Football Turf surface.
      Costs

Due to the installation of the Football
Turf surface costs are saved due to less
      investment, less maintenance and more
      revenue especially when concerts hosting
Bon Jovi and Robbie Williams have taken
      place.

      Special Events

To help keep its bank balance healthy,
Stade de Suisse has begun staging a
number of special events beyond football,
including a very successful ice hockey game.
“In Switzerland, ice hockey is extremely
popular and this is particularly true here
in Bern. We recently hosted a local derby
between Bern and Langnau which is the
city closest to the capital here,” explains
Stefan Niedermaier. Both teams have their
own homes of course, in fact Bern’s ice
hockey arena is just a few hundred metres
from the Stade de Suisse. However neither
can match the stadium’s capacity, and the
deal proved too good to resist for cash
strapped Langnau, which decided to switch
its ‘home’ game to the Stade de Suisse, as
part of a joint venture with the stadium.
“We decided to share the risk but also to
share the profit,” notes Stefan Niedermaier.
The game eventually drew a sell-out crowd
of 30,000, setting a new European record
for a championship game, beating the
previous record of 23,000 spectators for
a match in Sweden, also held in a football
stadium. Such a success has clearly whetted
the appetite for more events of this kind
in the future. During the next winter
break, the Stade de Suisse are planning on
having three or four weeks of ice activities,
including public skating, special ice dance
events and even freestyle skiing exhibitions.
      A month-long programme makes a lot of
      sense economically and ecologically.

      Conclusion

Since the installation of the FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR Football Turf, the
business, strategy and football side have
all been successful. Indeed the financial
benefits of installing the Football Turf pitch
has in turn helped the club move forward as
more money can be re-invested in the team.

I do remember 'Arry giving out about it when Spurs paid a visit two seasons ago.

Anyone know what's up with Doni? We really need an alternative to Reina.

Would include Coates, Sahin and Robinson. I think Robinson is our best left back anyway.

Borini needs a goal so should get the whole game in the middle up front.

No way Gerrard or Suarez should be starting this game. It was obvious the last time they played three games in a week how poor they were against Arsenal.

We need to beat Utd and it's more important than beating Old boys.

I doubt Gerrard will even travel and I think Suarez will start on the bench and only come on if we're loosing the game. Expect fringe/youth players to get a run out. As others have said, I hope to see Assaidi given a run out so we can see what he's capable of.

I understand your point and agree completely that we need consistency in the league, but I would prefer us to use the Europa League and Carling Cup to develop youngsters this season.  I don't anticipate us winning any trophies this season, so I'd rather we use the opportunity to get the likes of Gulasci, Kelly, Flano, Coates, Wisdom, Sama, Robo, Hendo, Shelvey, Suso, Sterling, Borini, Yesil, Assaidi, Pacheco, etc more playing time.  It will benefit us in the years to come if we can get 2 or 3 star players out of this group, with another 2 or 3 squad players.

I'd like to see a good mix of youth & experience:

                    Gulasci
      Kelly  Carra  Coates  Robo
                Allen   Sahin
                    Hendo
        Assaidi   Yesil   Pacheco

Would also like to see Suso, Cole, and Downing involved in this game.  I'm not as concerned with the result of this game as I am with Sunday's.  I'd just like to see a few of our youngsters begin to emerge and start to put a bit of pressure on our regular starters.

      Rodgers: Yesil in contention

Brendan Rodgers has revealed Samed Yesil could come into contention for his Liverpool debut in Thursday's Europa League clash with Young Boys as he looks to utilise his squad for the trip to Switzerland.

The Germany U19 striker caught the eye of his manager while on international duty recently, while he also turned in an impressive display in his first outing for the Reds' U21s against Chelsea on Friday night.

"Yesil will certainly be fast-tracked," said Rodgers. "He will be involved in the Europa League game.

"I watched him play against England U19s during the international break and he scored two terrific goals and set up another."

Rodgers has had no qualms about pitching youngsters into action during his time in charge so far, with Raheem Sterling most notably notching six appearances so far this term.

The boss believes the impact the 17-year-old has had on the first team has given the club's youngsters a boost in confidence as they look to make the grade.

Rodgers added: "The biggest thing for young players now is that the introduction of Raheem has given even the seven and eight year olds the one thing in life you want - hope.

"Every young Academy player, every parent or guardian has got hope that a young player will play at Liverpool.

"I saw it last week after moving a lot of the young players up to Melwood with it being international week. You could see it in their attitude. They had a spring in their step.

"They feel that they have got a chance and they will get that. There is nothing better than when you see a young kid come through. There will be that chance for Yesil and one or two other boys over this period of months now."

were first looking at installing artificial turf,
we flew the team to Red Bull Salzburg,
where the same artificial turf product
has been installed and certified to FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR. I wanted to be
100 per cent sure that the team, players,
staff and the coach fully supported the
      idea”.

      A successful solution for all
Multiple Use, Image, Sport, costs were all
advantageous factors for installing a FIFA
      RECOMMENDED 2 STAR Football Turf.

      Multiple use

Installing a FIFA RECOMMENDED 2 STAR
Football Turf allowed much more frequent
use of the stadium infrastructure. Thus
sports, business events and concerts could
all take place and more importantly on a
      frequent basis. Therefore more spectators
due to increased frequency of events such
as concerts and business seminars. The
strategic goal of “non traditional football
The strategy of going Football Turf
STade de SuiSSe, BSC Young BoYS
      Switzerland
6 7fans” coming into the football stadium with
the hope that they may come back and see
FSC Young Boys. A good long term strategy
      of increasing the fan base.
      image

Due to the durability of the playing surface
the look and feel was excellent all year
round. An evergreen pitch from the FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR field in the
stadium enhanced the image for spectators
in the stadium, television and photographs.
The stadium also had a further unique
selling point in the Swiss Premier League.

It was the only club to have a FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR Football Turf field.
      Therefore showing initiative and leading
the way for other clubs to watch and
learn. Very much the Stade de Suisse were
      groundbreakers in the development and
seeing the benefits for both the business
      and football side.

      Sport

Due to the durability of the FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR surface the first
team can train and play on the pitch. Also
the youth teams can train and play on the
pitch. This creates a club atmosphere and
      utilises the Football Turf surface.
      Costs

Due to the installation of the Football
Turf surface costs are saved due to less
      investment, less maintenance and more
      revenue especially when concerts hosting
Bon Jovi and Robbie Williams have taken
      place.

      Special Events

To help keep its bank balance healthy,
Stade de Suisse has begun staging a
number of special events beyond football,
including a very successful ice hockey game.
“In Switzerland, ice hockey is extremely
popular and this is particularly true here
in Bern. We recently hosted a local derby
between Bern and Langnau which is the
city closest to the capital here,” explains
Stefan Niedermaier. Both teams have their
own homes of course, in fact Bern’s ice
hockey arena is just a few hundred metres
from the Stade de Suisse. However neither
can match the stadium’s capacity, and the
deal proved too good to resist for cash
strapped Langnau, which decided to switch
its ‘home’ game to the Stade de Suisse, as
part of a joint venture with the stadium.
“We decided to share the risk but also to
share the profit,” notes Stefan Niedermaier.
The game eventually drew a sell-out crowd
of 30,000, setting a new European record
for a championship game, beating the
previous record of 23,000 spectators for
a match in Sweden, also held in a football
stadium. Such a success has clearly whetted
the appetite for more events of this kind
in the future. During the next winter
break, the Stade de Suisse are planning on
having three or four weeks of ice activities,
including public skating, special ice dance
events and even freestyle skiing exhibitions.
      A month-long programme makes a lot of
      sense economically and ecologically.

      Conclusion

Since the installation of the FIFA
RECOMMENDED 2 STAR Football Turf, the
business, strategy and football side have
all been successful. Indeed the financial
benefits of installing the Football Turf pitch
has in turn helped the club move forward as
more money can be re-invested in the team.

I do remember 'Arry giving out about it when Spurs paid a visit two seasons ago.
