I'm probably alone in this but I thought the referee was excellent. He set his stall out early in that it was obvious he was not going to give free kicks for theatrical dives, and he never did. Very refreshing to see a game refereed on the basis that he was blowing his whistle for fouls rather than whether or not there was "contact".

Good point...He didn't give either side any gimme freekicks....the players soon adapted to his style and it made for a good game...

Downing looked better than Enrique at left back and did vs Hearts as well.

      Just saying. :o

Once again though Gerrard looked more capable of completing a 40 yard pass than a 5 yard one... Anyone else think the Captain is still in a bit of a dip in form?

Other than his start, I thought he was a bit invisible. Definitely not what we are used to seeing from him.

I also agree about the ref. I was critical of him to begin with, but only because he wasn't going to stand for any nonsense which became clear as the game went on.

The lack of protection agin for Suarez is getting worrying, that said last night he didn't do himself any favours in my opinion.

      Enjoyed that...Thought Eto was sh*te !!...
We needed Agger and Skrtel at the back..I hate to say but I don't think Carra and Coates would've coped..
I also hate to say it but Suarez needs a kick up the arse..C'mon Luis get yer sh*t t'gether for Sunday eh.

I think that's a bit rough on Luis.  He certainly wasn't great last night, but I thought he did alright.  He worked his socks off running through the channels and closing down defenders.  He had one moment of brilliance when he turned the defender and played Shelvey in on goal, but he sliced his shot.  He also would have scored one if Gerrard had allowed Jonjo's pass to get through.

No player can score or create in every game.  Last night, Luis wasn't his most effective, but he is a class player and he will bounce back!!

I couldn't watch this live so watched it online. We were the better team in the first half and were up to the goal. I got a bit nervy towards the end, but overall it was a great team performance, our 3rd consecutive clean sheet, another win, and we're still in excellent shape in the group stage. Nothing to complain about from me.

I voted for Assaidi as MOTM. He was boss, pacey, tricky, creating chances for teammates. We gotta start seeing him in the Prem a bit more.

Glad we got the win last night, regardless of the performance which I think was pretty average.
Assaidi was absolutely class, soo quick an can take anyone on, always on the move. I would be made up if he brought him in instead of Suso on sunday, how on earth would Coleman or Hibbert deal with him?
Wisdom is a BEST, not afraid of any challenge or anyone, also made a few good bursting runs forward.
Gerrard seems to be getting more and more average game by game which saddens me :( He does have his moments of class but for me he lost the ball too many times last night and always seemed like he was just on a slight jog.
Suarez was also dissapointing last night, everytime he got the ball he would always go to flick it over/past the defender without even looking up to see if there was any support, NEEDS TO KEEP HIS GOD DAMN HEAD UP!, Also needs to stay on his feet, which goes without saying.
Anyway, leaves us top of the group but more importantly I think were in good shape for Sunday. 3 clean sheets on the run now, oh yea, also Brad Jones was very solid last night and im left feeling that I would actually be happy to be number 1 on Sunday, even if Reina was fit. Reina definitely needs a good kick up the a*se, feel like hes on a downward slope at the moment.

Difficult to pick MOM I thought Wisdom and Assaidi both deserved it, I've gone for Wisdom but there was nothing in it they both had a great game.

Tactics were spot on just lacking goals again.. Happy for Downing scoring but needs to keep is concentration

Overall Liverpool kept Eto quiet and head to head with one of the best Hiddink Rodgers more than held his own. Top of a difficult group so all is good and another home win/clean sheet :)

Not having a pop just thought Shelvey was poor compared to what we have seen. Sahin stood out in the middle for me

Had a boss time at Anfield last night. Great game, good atmosphere, good performance and a good win. Was also nice to collect some of the lads' autographs after the match. Also met big Traore outside the Hilton before going in and mingling with the Anzhi players. ;D
