To celebrate his upcoming 600th appearance for Liverpool, captain Steven Gerrard was asked to pick his all-time eleven from players he has played alongside in his 15 years

Steven Gerrard‘s Liverpool XI: Reina; Babbel, Carragher, Hyypia, Johnson; Hamann, Alonso, Gerrard; Suarez, Fowler, Torres.

Very few surprises in there, the likes of Alonso, Torres, Suarez, Didi, Carra and Fowler

I agree with most of Gerrards selections, not much controversial in there,  Owen, Agger, Masch, Lucas would be in with a shout but I think he has got it right.

Surprised Riise is not there. We are still struggling to replace him.

If i has to pick my own best 11,chosen only from players i saw at there peak when i first started to go to games in late 1988(Ive not included Kenny or Hansen as they were at the end of there careers) it would be

      GK Reina
RB R.Jones or Babbel (Cant decide on either player who would have both played so much longer but for injuries etc)
LB Risse or Johnson if you now class him as a LB
      CB Sami
      CB Carra
      CM Gerrard
      CM Alonso
      RM Mcmanaman
      LM Barnes
      STR Fowler
STR Suarez (Torres and Owen at there peaks would be very close)

For a supporting role suarez will make into my XI too. But for an out and out striker,it will be owen and torres.

While I can't fault Stevie choosing Babbel at right back Steve Finnan did not do to bad in that position.

Wow, what a team that would be, Suarez playing a little deeper would be superb he would create 25 goals a season and notch nearly 20 himself. Surely top strikers in Europe can see this, with Stevie in Midfield the potential is there.

Hamman & Alonso - the stuff of dreams.

Can't find anything to disagree with in Stevie's team - would prefer natural LB but Johnson has been really impressive. Pepe's a shoe-in, as are Carra & Sami. Shows the impression Luis has created in one full season that he's straight in too.

I'm not because he's one sh*te full back. Glen Johnson is a far better left back than Riise could ever hope to be. Babbel was F***ing amazing at right-back during the treble-season. That's why Gerrard hasn't picked the ginger spiced bag of sh*te.

Kind of get where the lads coming from though Huyt. Although Riise is not a world beater I don't think we'd had better there up until the start of last season. Off the top of me head anyway.

      I wonder if thats a 4-3-3 or as I hope: 4-3-1-2?

That front 3 is exceptional, a bucketload of goals and assists for each other.

Not a chance he'd pick Rafa.

      I've a feeling he'd pick Hodgson sooner.

Beside Alonso in front of Didi is how he put it on the video HR.

Centre mid is his best postion after all ;)

Riise should not be mentioned.  I still believe he put that goal in for CHelsea in the CL to pay off his debts.
