No. I'd take 3rd though, if you're offering.

      Enjoy.

Can't wait for the open top bus parade.

If the team is truely settled by 2013/14 and the season is as open as this season then there is no reason we cant finish top two , Ill tell you my true opinion come february!

I'd take it for the boost it would give but only as a stepping stone to bigger and better things in the future.

I think the final CL qualification place is up for grabs by anyone this season but there's no point getting there and not pushing on to challenge for the title next season.

      Enjoy.

Can't wait for the open top bus parade.

Doubt you'd see it from up there.

In fairness I knew you were fishing and that you'd take the high road on any answers that didn't state 2nd is the 1st loser.
Given how we have started this season, I would happily take 3rd right now as it would see a good turn around for us. It would require we raise our game to just over a 2.0 points per game average for the rest of the season.

It may not be 1st but it would be a F***ing good return for where we are right now and where we have been over that last three seasons. So yes, if you offered it to me, I would take 3rd right now. Why? Because it's a step in the right direction and right now I'd be happy to take that given the sh*t we have endured recently.

I want a title challenge so that would secure top 4 anything less is accepting mediocrity.

I'd happily take 4th now. Not for the CL per se, but just because it is far higher than where we will likely end up.

      "Accepting Mediocrity" interesting phrase

What do you do that says you don't "accept mediocrity" ?

Perseverance - a lowly virtue whereby mediocrity achieves an inglorious success.

I'm sh#t at this game for simple reason I always say no to the "virtual prize". As fn painful as it can be I don't want a guarantee of anything season over now - I want the joy, pain, angst and everything inbetween for the rest of the season. That's why I'm in this line of work!

The next season has not started yet, so this thread's a bit confusing! I will want nothing but TOP 1 finish there  ;D  ;D  ;D

I still have some faith for this season, though! And I'd accept a fourth place, if offered, in it! :D

First is first and all that but ........

By coming 4th we would have definitely improved on KD,  Woy and Rafa's last stand.

So for 2013  yes  .. Id take 4th and back into the CL.

       For 2013.

Fourth place would not be too bad at all considering how much we've let our rivals gain ground on us over the last few seasons. I can't see it happening but I'd be over the moon if we were back in the Champions League next season!

For next season, so the 2013/2014 season. No!

Obviously I think we can finish higher or I just don't like knowing what my present is before I open it. I think next year we should be in a position to do something.

      Reina, ?

Skertl, Agger, Coates, Wisdom, Enrique, Johnson, Carra, Flanagan, Robinson, + 1 more fullback/CD

Lucas, Allen, Sahin?, Henderson, Gerrard, Suso, + maybe 1 more midfielder (sell Downing and replace him)

Borini, Suarez, Sterling + 2 more attackers (sell Carroll) if we pick up an attacker in January then 1 more.

I really think next year, given our understanding will be better we will be in a position to challenge. Citeh, Chelsea and Utd are getting more fatigued with every season. If we plan our rebuilding at the right time we will be in peak of a cycle. We must take adavantage. I thin next year is crucial.
