      v
      Liverpool v Fulham
      22 Dec 2012, 1730
      Anfield
      Official: Mark Clattenburg

Both the Reds and Cottagers come into this one looking for three points following a defeat last weekend. Liverpool slumped to a shocking 1-3 defeat at Anfield to Aston Villa, while Fulham gave QPR their first victory of the season at Loftus Road.

The two teams have an interesting history over the past few seasons, with Fulham pulling the double over the Reds in the last campaign. Clint Dempsey, now at Tottenham after Liverpool failed in their pursuit of the American, scored the 1-0 winner at Craven Cottage in December when he capitalized on a rebound given up by Pepe Reina. Reina himself was suspended for the return fixture at Anfield in May, while Jay Spearing was given a straight red in the match. Manager Kenny Dalglish played a weakened side in the return fixture in order to rest his stars ahead of the FA Cup final vs Chelsea four days later. Liverpool would again end up on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline when Martin Skrtel's own goal gave the Cottagers the victory. In that match, backup keeper Doni slotted in for the suspended Reina.

The last five meetings between Liverpool and Fulham at Anfield have been fairly even, with Liverpool having a record of 2-2-1 against the London club.

This season, both teams sit mid-table through 17 fixtures. Brendan Rodgers' men currently lie in 12th place on 22 points, while Martin Jol's team are just two points back of the Reds on 20 points.

Rodgers has hinted that both Joe Allen and Raheem Sterling could be rested in the coming weeks. In his pre-match presser, Rodgers indicated that Jose Enrique is fit for Saturday, while Oussama Assaidi is doubtful with a knee injury. Nuri Sahin could return depending on his comfort level after being fitted with a protective mask following surgery from a broken nose.

Fulham have been boosted by the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov, with the Bulgarian having netted 5 times for the Cottagers since moving from Manchester United in the summer. Mladen Petric shares the scoring tally with the Bulgarian on 5 goals in league play.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have relied on Luis Suarez's 10 league goals, however the Uruguayan hasn't netted since a two-goal showing vs Wigan in November. Captain Steven Gerrard found the back of the net last week vs Aston Villa to put him second behind Suarez with just 2 goals in the league.

Both teams will be looking for a win, with more pressure being put on the Reds to rebound after a poor performance vs Villa. A win for either side could give them a boost heading into the Boxing Day fixtures before the January window opens up.

      0-0

BUT I hasten to add, with an 'outstanding' performance, 99.5% possession and lots of positives - except for supporters. F**k me I am cynical.

The way both sides are playing anything could happen. After last week's upset  it is difficult to predict the result. Not over confident but a decent performance might help with a couple of goals. I will stick my neck out and go for a 2 1 win for the Red men. Fingers crossed though!

Predicted we would put Villa to sword with a 7-0 scoreline.

So bit of reverse psychology, we're gonna get hammered 7-0.

Its on my birthday and I'm going to the game so we better win. I've seen Liverpool play 3 times before and we've won all of them so I'm guessing that's a good sign.

Big game, we can't enter this busy period of game after game within a few days, having lost at home to Fulham. Need a positive start.

I will admit to not having watched an awful lot of the Villa game, I found it hard to bring myself to doing it. What I did watch indicated that we started brightly but, the old age story, were not clinical enough. That may be down in part to tiredness of the likes of Luis and Sterling, I don't know. I don't want to make excuses though, we simply were not good enough, from defense, midfield or attack. We need to start in a positive manner. Fulham will come thinking they can get a good result, possibly even similar to Villa's at the weekend. As fans, we need to move on, as painful as it may seem. If things are not going as planned on the pitch, we have to back the team. Giving them stick does not help things. Be positive Redmen!

Can't see anything but a win , mainly because the thought of losing this one going into the  busy Christmas period , is too horrible to contemplate !
Hope they show us last week was just a blip.

Don't think Fulham have been the same since Ruiz got injured.
Still a tough team and I'd expect a response after our last match.

This game can't come quick enough. As a team you need games like this to show that what happened last time was a blip on the way. You need games like this to prove your worth - wounded self-pride and self-worth should be the only motivation we need. If we can't show passion and intensity now, the immediate future is bleak.

C'mon lads show us that you deserve to pull on the famous Red... batter these proper.

Found myself thinking the same before last weeks depressing shambles, but I DO think we will get a comfortable win.
Even though he has literally only just signed a new contract I think its time we should drop Sterling for this game.

      Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique
      Lucas, Allen, Gerrard
      Shelvey, Suarez, Suso

      3-1 win I think, I hope.

I think this side will play tomorrow:

      --------------------Reina---------------------

      --Wisdom----Skrtel-----Agger----Johnson--

      --------------------Lucas---------------------

      ----------Gerrard----------Henderson-------

      --Suso------------------------------Enrique--

      -------------------Suarez---------------------

Subs; Jones; Carragher, Downing; Shelvey, Sahin, Cole; Morgan.

I'd like to see Wisdom play at right back and Johnson at left back. With Enrique just in front of him pushing forward.

I think Allen and Sterling should both be rested as we've got hard games coming up away at both Stoke and QPR. Henderson and Suso can both bring something fresh into the side.

I think the lads will be ready for this one and I feel we win.

I'm going for a 2-0 win, with Suarez getting an early goal and Gerrard scoring a late screamer (long overdue, I must add).

I'm gonna go with this as my preferred side for tomorrow:

      Reina
      Coates     Agger
      Johnson                 Enrique
      Lucas    Sahin
      Gerrard
      Suso                     Sterling
      Suarez

Not quite as many drastic changes as I knee-jerked on Saturday, but a few drops. I would have had Assaidi starting in place of Sterling, but he's doubtful with a knee injury.
