Solanki is an interesting one. At Chelsea they REALLY rate him but reckon they can't blame him as he ain't gonna get a fair shake. Bertrand Traore and Tammy Abraham are a couple notches agwad of him and tgey won't get a game either. Those that are paid to know such things tho reckon Solanki could be a bit special.

Totally Si. The first question for any signing (before "how much" FFS) ought to be "will he improve our first team?".

Clichy would, overnight. And he's free. I'm struggling here for a negative.

Nothing against him but how exactly does he help solve our defensive problems? I'd happily take him as a rotation guy and for experience but I seriously hope we have a better first choice target in mind.

Can't say the thought of Clichy fills me with a great deal of excitement BUT it does once again highlight the financial reality of working under FSG. If Jürgen wants to spend BIG on a couple of players he will also need to pull in a few bargains. That's how it is with FSG and it is not going to change anytime soon.

It doesn't half bite to see us sifting through the trashcans of our rivals for their discarded rubbish though. Before you know it we'll be in for Jesus Navas and Luke Shaw. 

As for the left-back spot I think that Klopp views Milner as his starter and suspect that any purchases will be in the mould of a Clichy or a youngster like the lad at Fulham.

If that sets your pulse racing then you have seriously low expectations for the future of this club.

Thankfully, Clichy rumors played down! Probably we are doing another Saints raid = VVD + Bertrand.

If Bertrand wants a step up, I can see only us as the potential destination. United after Rose, City after Mendy, Arse signing Kolasinac, Spurs with Davies & possibly Sessognon. I dont think he would go back to Chelsea to be another 'back-up'. Wouldnt be a bad choice. He has grown more consistent and like Clyne, he is a good defender.

It's amazing the amount of hysteria on here. I'm impatient as anyone and want some major intent, but some of the people in this thread are making fools of themselves. Other than City, no one has swooped in to make any shows of intent at this point. Now if the players we are supposedly targeting start getting signed elsewhere, then I'll get worried. For now, from what I've read, we are in driver's seat for VVD as he has supposedly expressed a desire to play for Klopp.....Keita I'm pessimistic on as everything he says points to him staying at his current club. Beyond that who knows what our real intent is until we actually see someone leaning at Melwood.

Honestly we need to look at who we he would  be replacing. Clichy would be better than Milner at LB and so would Bertrand. So while neither are my favorite....if we were getting VVD and Keita (or the like) and a big time striker, I'd be perfectly happy with Bertrand or Clichy replacing Milner at LB.
